Bottle. The pour was a clear medium brown with a slight orange hue and an average (1-2 finger) off-white creamy head that lasted a decent time, finally reducing to a large puddle with a medium collar and had good streaky lacing. The aroma was of a toasted caramel malt, citrus hops and a doughy yeast with notes of toffee, dark fruit (grapes and plums) and possessed a slight alcohol tinge. The taste very lightly sweet and a bit malty with a hint of toffee from the start, then slowly became exceptionally bitter with a note of dark fruit and a bitter citrus peel ending. The flavor lasted a decently long time after the swallow, with a strong bitterness left lying on the taste buds. Mouthfeel was between light and medium in body and slightly dry in texture with a medium carbonation. Overall a good powerful tasting brew with a nice bitter malty fruitiness...

Literally my favorite Yards Brew. Often had this one at the Tasting Room on Delaware Avenue. Malt forward, with a slight rye bite, which the honey from the bright tanks mellows so nicely. At 8%, the booze is VERY well hidden. Great beer for just about anytime.

Aromas of nutty malts, earthy hops, corn cereal, and hints of spice. Clear, deep gold-amber with a mostly fading off-white head. Dry, malt-forward. Medium bodied, smooth.

Pours a bright red and orange with lots of bubbles pulling upward. Aroma is wort-ish and bready. Tastes a bit green and undercooked. Because it’s a historical beer. I can’t claim with certainty that it is under done. Some baking bread notes but otherwise not tasting good to me.

2oz sample at International Great Beer Expo (Meadowlands). Pours pale gold color with a small head of foam. Aroma of honey and wheat. Taste of bitter citrus hops, honey, and wheat.

On tap ( beer engine) at the Industry. Dark golden with creamy head, nice hoppy aroma and hops in taste , creamy and smooth. No evidence of the elevated ABV.

Bottle at Philly’s Tavern. Pours clear amber with a medium, frothy off-white head, medium retention with good lacing. Aroma is toast and cookie malt, dates, earthy and woody hops. Flavor is malt dominant with medium hops and bitterness, dark fruits and a dry finish. Medium body and carbonation.

A fairly hoppy beer with wonderful honey and rye sweetness ro balance the bitterness. Bit of a lingering finish but very light on the palate. Pairs well with rustic red meat based dishes (beef stew, cottage pie, etc).

Bottle split at Christine and Daves thanks to DLJ, 27/11/13. Clear golden amber with a moderate off white covering that retains well. Nose is bready malt, toffee, biscuit, bitter fruit tang, woody, scorched brown sugar. Taste comprises toffee, faint hop backbone, bitter orange, touch of booze. Medium bodied with a little oomph, dry, fine carbonation with a lick’o’booze in a sweetish finish. Ok drinkable affair but lacks depth for the ABV and not one I’d choose to revisit.
