COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Taking elements from two classic Belgian styles, we’ve crafted a beer that incorporates the best characteristics of both tripels and dubbels. Trubbel boasts the strength and spiciness of a tripel and the rich malt character of a dubbel. We brew this uncommon ale with a classic Belgian yeast strain, dark Belgian candi sugar, and a unique blend of specialty malts, producing subtle biscuit, chocolate, and caramel overtones. Available November through January beginning in even years only.

A tad tart with alcohol apparent, and fleeting sweetness. To address the previously stated idea that the sourness is an unintentional feature of Yards’ bottling process, I will say that I’ve had it straight from a keg at the brewery, and it still tastes that way.

Poured a very dark brown which looked like a dubble. The smell was very strong, in fact too strong for my taste. The alcohol was very strong in the aroma. The aroma was fruity, and had liquorice and a bitterness like vinegar in it as well. The taste was the same, but the alcohol came up and bit me. Pretty good, but nothing to go crazy over.

(Draught, Drafting Room) Pours a murky dark brown body with a small beige head. Aroma of licorice and dark fruits. Flavor of licorice, raisins, cherry, molasses, and a hint of wood and smoke.

UPDATED: MAR 8, 2005 On tap, Grey Lodge: Cherries, mollases and alcohol all dominate this beer now and I like it. A decent finishing burn from the alcohol make this beer a 2 "Danger Will Robinson" special.

Draft at the brewery. Nice malt character throughout the whole beer. Alcohol was hidden rather well.

UPDATED: JAN 1, 2005 Murky dark brown color with a good size tan head. Lost a few ounces on opening as the bottle was a real gusher. Sour, yeasty aroma that reminded me of pumpernickle bread. Tasted a lot like a Flemish sour ale. Sour, yeasty flavor that was weird but enjoyable.

This one litre bottle has been sitting in my cellar for I think over a year now. Very dark chocolate brown in color leaving a thin creamy film on top. Aroma is sweet with fruity and malty notes. Some vinegar in there too. Flavor has an unusual sourness that I don’t like. Is it supposed to be sour? Very rich in malt and swettness. Body is like a Tripel, medium bubbly. Overall I just couldn’t get past the sourness of this brew.
