Taking elements from two classic Belgian styles, we’ve crafted a beer that incorporates the best characteristics of both tripels and dubbels. Trubbel boasts the strength and spiciness of a tripel and the rich malt character of a dubbel. We brew this uncommon ale with a classic Belgian yeast strain, dark Belgian candi sugar, and a unique blend of specialty malts, producing subtle biscuit, chocolate, and caramel overtones. Available November through January beginning in even years only.

Pours a very dark brown with a lacing tan head. Quiet nice looking. The aroma has caramel, roast malt and some wood. The flavor is similar but a bit too sweet for me. The booze is nowhere to be found, rich and warming.

UPDATED: JAN 16, 2013 Draft at Moriartys. Pitch brown pour (darker than a Dubbel) with a large foamy head that left some unusual fizzy marsmallow lace. Clean medium-dark malt flavors. Some red fruits. Some burnt caramel. Bit of coffee and chocolate. Coke syrup. Otherwise complex notes, though they a bit shallow. Little thicker body than most dark ales. Update: Have had this a few times now and beginning to like it more than I did at first. Finding it with a creamier mouthfeel. Nice semi-dry finish for a malty dark ale.

Deep ruby with a firm head. Aroma is dark fruits, candied malts, toffee, raisin. Mouth is much more creamy than expected. A light carbonation bite but mostly smooth, thick, creamy. Flavor is dark, ripe fruit, candied sugar malts, toffee, and just a hint if alcohol in the finish. Highly enjoyable brew. The 9% is well hidden, which meant I drank it a bit faster than I would normally have. Very good. (Firkin)

Draft at the brewery. Pours a deep brown with hints of ruby, beighe white head. Very complex nose - Toffee, dried fruits and a hint of pine. Taste is much the same with a medium bitter grapefruit that persists through the finish. Very good.

A tad tart with alcohol apparent, and fleeting sweetness. To address the previously stated idea that the sourness is an unintentional feature of Yards’ bottling process, I will say that I’ve had it straight from a keg at the brewery, and it still tastes that way.
