3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 NikkTwist (965) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 10, 2013
UPDATED: JAN 16, 2013 Draft at Moriartys. Pitch brown pour (darker than a Dubbel) with a large foamy head that left some unusual fizzy marsmallow lace. Clean medium-dark malt flavors. Some red fruits. Some burnt caramel. Bit of coffee and chocolate. Coke syrup. Otherwise complex notes, though they a bit shallow. Little thicker body than most dark ales. Update: Have had this a few times now and beginning to like it more than I did at first. Finding it with a creamier mouthfeel. Nice semi-dry finish for a malty dark ale.

Pretty decent - bottle from Wegs in State College. Pretty much a standard dubbel in taste and characteristics, dark, sweet, malty, a bit of yeasty action in the nose and palate gives it an edge. But somehow they stuck a bit more alcohol in there, totally undetectable, a bit more than a dubbel. Well done.

UPDATED: MAR 8, 2005 On tap, Grey Lodge: Cherries, mollases and alcohol all dominate this beer now and I like it. A decent finishing burn from the alcohol make this beer a 2 "Danger Will Robinson" special.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 ben4321 (3032) - Hoboken, New Jersey, USA - JAN 22, 2013
Location: Bomber from Buy Rite, 1/22/13
Aroma: A fairly sweet nose, with brown sugar, chocolate, Belgian yeast, spice, and some dark fruit
Appearance: It pours a dark brown color with a foamy, lasting, brown head that leaves heavy lace
Flavor: The taste is mid-heavy sweet, with quite a bit of spice as well, and some nice complexity
Palate: The body is medium-plus, it has a smooth feel with a little stickiness, and a soft carbonation
Overall Impression:
This is an interesting one, and interesting is the right word, because it is probably more interesting then it is good. By that I mean that even though there’s a lot going on, which leads to a fairly complex flavor, it doesn’t all fit together perfectly. Still though, it is quite interesting and worth trying, and I like the idea of the beer and much of what is happening, so I’m a little torn. I could probably drink this one 10 times and have 10 different scores, but tonight, I settled here.
