COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
What is The Beacon, you might ask? Calfkiller and Yazoo brewed this beer with some German oak smoked wheat malt, local TN honey, and some in-house Calfkiller-roasted coffee. It’s fermented with Calfkiller’s house ale yeast and unfiltered. I am so happy with how it turned out! The nose is fresh, clean and slightly flowery. The smoked wheat shows up in the beginning of the first sip, followed by a herbal, earthy body but finishing dry and only slightly sweet.

Tasting at the ever gracious ChrisO’s. Lightly bazy gold beer, good size fluffy white head. Palate is very light and airy. Whisper of smoke and very light floralness. Trace of citrus. Light airy finish. Fluffy and ephemeral.

Chriso May 2014 tasting. Smokey bacon. Clear gold lasting white head. Smokey bacon rather good and drinkable. Light some grassy hop and tang.

Cloudy hold color with a nice white head. Wheat, dark honeyed notes, some yeast and the smoke. Neat beer. Hints of spice and sweetness dance in between the smoke.

Bottle thanks to Chriso. It pours clear golden with a medium white head. The nose is toasty, smoke, smoked meat, dough, hay and grain. The taste is toasty, light bitterness, clean what, hay, straw, light smoke and spice with a clean, dry finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Clean and easy drinking, but really not much to it....

This was an odd one. Murky brownish orange and no head. Smells fruity, wheat-ish, some smoke aromas. Very watery on the first sip. Taste is Lemony, some wheat malt, some smokey notes. Dry finish. Not a total lost cause by any means, but maybe needs a few minor tweaks.

750 ml. Hazy golden pour with a one inch, creamy head and lots of effervescent action in the body; the look of a Belgian Tripel. Nose of smoky wheat and resin, with a hint of dish soap. Taste is upfront with smoke and light wheat that develops into a smoky, lightly peppery cracker with some touches of wild garlic, green grass, resins and lightly sour citrus on the finish. I normally only consume beer, but this seems like it would pair nicely with some sort of fish. I might take up eating food again just to see. Light body is smooth, and surprisingly seems lightly carbonated with a slight oily texture, and is to the dry side.

22 oz bottle courtesy of Suttree. The pour is a lightly hazed golden with a 1 inch white foamy head. The aroma is clove along with soft lemon rind and an earthy wheat grain. The taste is the grainy wheat that turns to lemon citrus and lemon peel and finishes with more of the somewhat rough earthy wheat The palate is light to medium bodied with soft carbonation and a fairly thin finish. Didn’t even realize this was supposed to have smoke until I read the description, I suppose that is the "earthiness" I was experiencing. Decent enough, thanks for sending this my way Phil.

Pours clear light yellow with a large billowy white head. Very faint smoke aroma with some citrus; but overall not much aroma at all. The flavor follows the aroma. Unexciting.
