The aroma is of cardboard, malt, and some hops as well as a bit of hazelnut coffee. The appearance is amber/brown with a thin head. The taste is like the aroma with a nutty finish. The palate is thin. Overall I am not in love with it but it has a good finish.

On tap at the brewery. Pours a dark amber color with a lasting one-finger off-white head. Aroma is malty with caramel and slight dark fruit notes. Not too exciting. Flavor is not terribly exciting either, but pleasant. Caramel and Munich malt evident with raisin notes and nuts. Medium-light bodied with average carbonation. Overall this is pretty solid for what it’s trying to be, but not one of my favorites from Yazoo.

This poured amedium brown color with an off white head. Aroma was bland malt a little roasted. Flavor was much the same maybe some mild chocolate in there too. Blah.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Brigadier (1837) - Chagrin Falls, Ohio, USA - MAY 25, 2010
On draft
My second beer was an alt and equally as sessionable as the earlier pale ale. With the heat outside these were actually good choices. I’d like to get my hands on a couple more releases from Yazoo to find out if this is par for the course or I just tried some of their better releases. I can’t imagine a brewery would rest its laurels on lighter beer styles alone.
Aroma / Appearance - The semi-opaque ruby red liquid filled the glass to the top. Caramel and cooled ash sweetened the air. It reminded me of a bowl of raisin bran cereal poured with skim milk. Underlying it all was a nutty texture.
Flavor / Palate - Peanut butter on rye bread filled the mouth with a fluid consistency. Sitting on the tongue rather than the throat this fades very quickly. Carbonated cherry cordial gave way to a slightly warm aftertaste I was not expecting from a lower alcohol beer. Still this was well balanced enough to be a worthy local/regional release.
2.1 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 Rustyham (1303) - Nashville, Tennessee, USA - MAY 9, 2010
I’m pretty sure this tap was bad- this is very light, the fluffy head hides the aroma. Really skunked flavor, old dishwater, very light malt. No roastiness or chocolate flavor. On tap at Mellow Mushroom, Murfreesboro.
