Quake1028 (628), Tampa, Florida, USA Oct 31, 2007 Thanks to unclejedi for the bottle. The shocking beer of the tasting, I think all of us liked this one quite a bit more than the average rater. Light brown pour with watery looking edges. Small white head with medium density, eventually making way to bubbly foam. Nose is wonderfull, chocolate malts, tobacco, leather, figs, ripe dark fruits, hops and toasty grains. Flavor is a bit below the aroma, but still very nice, with all of the components accounted for. Light to medium bodied, sticky palate. Sweet chocolate malt finish, medium-long in length. A very good beer, and massively underrated in my eyes.
Pastor (280), Maine, USA Oct 3, 2008 Thanks to ckeegan04 for this one
Bottle poured into a pint glass produced a two finger tan head that turned to a thin lace
The body of the brew was a dark brown and clear
Aromas of funk, Yes that is the best I can describe it. Coco and malts are there as well a really unique nose on this
The flavors are very sweet malt some nuttiness to it. Good brown ale, medium mouthfeel and a slight dry finish
Drinkability is ok; I would order a few of these at a bar. I was looking for a little more from this one considering the writing on the label said it was a Mexican style, to me it was a good nut brown
Butters (422), Temporarily in Nashville, Tennessee, USA Oct 1, 2008 Draft at the mellow mushroom. Clear reddish brown pour with amber highlights and thin ring of cream white head. Sweet malt aroma. Cloying sweet finish. Average. JustinFromAL (68), Birmingham, Alabama, USA Sep 28, 2008 Bottle. Pours a cloudy brown. Bready aroma. Taste is nice and crisp, generally a good beer, nothing overpowering, but nothing inspiring either. durhambeer (527), Durham, USA Sep 23, 2008 Hm, I couldn’t quite see the point of a "Mexican amber" beer, as they described it while offering it at Brewgrass. Clear brown/amber pour with thin head of big bubbles. Simply tasted like a sweet malty lager to me; slightly metallic. Didn’t really do it for me. I like the label, though. Jmichael (581), Asheville, North Carolina, USA Sep 22, 2008 lishge sweetness evident, darker pour but light on the body, hidden characteristics yet still lightly complex.
