4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
I’d been to Tennessee twice previosuly but had yet to rate a beer from there which has annoyed me for some time. So when a simple trade with atom for some pilseners could land me this bottle i said it’s bout time I get me some TN goodness. Pours deep murky brown. Nose is dark fruits and light smoke. Tastes of roast, light smoke, cherry, plum, malt, and very tannic. Chewy and drying palate. Medium sour tartness to cut through rich flavors. Enjoyable end to an enjoyable day.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pour on tap, dark reddish purple pour with thin white head, aroma brought notes of caramel, dark fruit, toffee, hints of oak, red wine into a slight bit of yeast, smoke comes in with a hint of mea, earth, touch of whiskey as well. Taste was a bit all over the place with oak, funk, bourbon, red wine into some smoke, dark fruits and toffee with a slight vanilla note, finishing tart. The combo just didn’t work for me.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Pours a dark nutty brown with some amber/copper/purple hues around the edges. Thin tan head that leaves minimal lacing. Aromas are unique to say the least. A sharp berry tartness with wafts of charcoal and lighter fluid. Hints of smoke and an earthy nuttiness follow. Taste is very sharp tartness upfront immediately followed by stale cigar smoke, charcoal, some kind of vegetable stew? I don’t even know where to go here. This is pretty messy. Almost seems like it was an infected batch of Sue that was salvaged as a "barrel project"...but I may be assuming to much. Whatever the thought was, it didn’t really work. My throat burns.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle traded in Nashville a few years ago. Dark pour with a big brown head and just a touch of lacing. Lots smoke in the aroma plus dark fruit and sour cherries. The flavor mirrors the aroma with espresso-like bitterness in the finish. Lots going on here. Maybe a little disjointed but still good.

2.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
In short: A dark ale that is just a jumbled mess of stuff. Beyond chaotic.
How: Bottle 750ml, consumed with some age on it… one year old? Bottle sent to me by grownfool, thanks Brian.
The look: Very dark burgundy (almost black) topped by a small beige head.
In long: Nose is all over the place, highly phenolic, smoke, dark fruits, wood coal, tart cherries, cassis liqueur, maybe some bourbon, other stuff… In mouth the beer feels thick-juicy (a bit slimy) with an abundant carbonation. The disturbingly high quantity of phenols from the aroma didn’t bother so much when sipping on it. A cluster-fuck mess of flavors, a smoked porter, juice from ripe dark grapes, cigarette ashes, tart dark cherries, acetic acid, other stuff... This really tasted like a classic early-morning beer, when only a few drunks remain standing up and we mix all the remaining almost empty unrelated bottles to create the ultimate beer-mess because we’re too drunk to care anyway. A lame mess, but I’m not expecting good beers from Tennessee, this state is known for producing the worst country music (the worst kind of bad music) as well as the best country music (the worst kind of good music).

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle from a trade with Rustyham. Pours clear dark brown color with tan head. Aromas of smoke and sour cherries with some oak. Smokey flavor with some tart cherry and oak. Slightly earthy. Medium body with average carbonation. A strange combination of flavors that works well for me. I really liked this one. Thanks Nick!

3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
UPDATED: MAY 8, 2013 Bottle. Pours just about pitch black with a huge tan head. Interesting aroma of chocolate, coffee, cherries, smoke, caramel, a little bourbon, and light acidity. Taste is a clusterf*ck, tough to tell what flavor stands out the most, but it’s probably the smoke. A lot of roasted malt flavors with a good amount of sour mixed in. This tastes like something one would concoct from leftovers at a jtclockwork tasting. Medium-full bodied, well carbonated. Not for me.
