3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 davidajensen (163) - Nashville, Tennessee, USA - MAY 19, 2012Not my favorite hop project, but it is more the ingredients used than the execution. Bitter and malty, this one finishes fairly clean but a little metallic.

Picked up a couple sixers in TN dated 5/16/2012 so this was about a week old when I started drinking it. Looks just like all of the other Hop Projects, amber, clear, good head and lacing. Smell is nice, hoppy, fruity, good stuff. Taste has a hoppy flavor that seems more fruit than pine but not citrus. This was really well balanced and though I am usually quite biased towards West Coast style IPA’s. I would have bought a case if I had a way to get it all home.

12 oz. bottle. Pours a slightly hazy amber color with a small bubbly white head. The aroma has some earthy and citrus hops, toasted malts and grass which you might find in an IPA. However, the rotting veggies, cleaner and buttery notes were completely unwanted and distracted greatly from the whole experience. The flavors were less offensive; earthy, ripe fruity, grassy, toasted malts, with only small amounts of diacetyl and oxidation. This was disappointing.

Orange pour with foamy white head and lace. Aroma is large resiny hop dominated. Nice resiny hops with a hinto malt. Strong bitter finish that just continues to grow. Medium bodied with good carbonation. What a bitter.

UPDATED: SEP 13, 2012 On tap at Mellow Mushroom. I’ve tried several versions of this one, and the immediate aroma of pine and hops here is strong. The pine taste in this batch is too much. Not enough balance. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle shared by alexsdad06. Poured clear dark amber color with an average frothy off-white head that lasted with good lacing. Moderate cleaning solution aroma. Medium body with a slick texture and soft carbonation. Medium bitter flavor with a medium bitter finish of moderate duration. This beer did not meet my expectations.

On tap. Darker straw-amber color, slight haze, around 12 SRM. Off white head with medium rockiness, yet smooth. Light, unimpressive aroma, notes of pine, citrus, straw, grass. Taste is very well balanced, malty caramel, earthy notes on front end with a nice smooth citrusy, pine, grassy, woody hoppy finish. Not a tremendous bitter linger. Wonderful lacing. Good IPA.

A muddy brown IPA with too much malts and too much sweetness and very little hop flavor. Bittered for some sense of balance to the sweetness but not for me.

Excellent hop and malt balance, weak flavor, very nice malt background and good malt finish

Bottled on June 12. Amber with a nice slightly off white head. Overlay of caramel and slightly muted citrus with the grapefruit coming through towards the end of things, some pine, and a sweet maltiness. High carbonation, moderate body, becomes bitter and then a sweet grapefruit ending with a nice dryness.

Tasted on 7/23/12 from a 12oz bottle purchased at Whole Foods Green Hills. Pours a beautiful, bright copper orange with a thick, fluffy beige head that slowly recedes to rocky lace. The nose is vegetal bitter with a touch of candied yam, an herbal note, and some pine resin. The flavor is pretty much the same, the hop profile is quite distinct, with herbal pine resin, and candied yam malts. The body is medium with average carbonation and a long resin hop and candied yam finish.
