Picked up a half gallon of this stuff on my way through Murfreesboro, TN. Made it home, to my surprise it still had decent carbonation. Dark brown almost black pour. Aroma was some roasted malts, chocolate and some earthiness. Lots of roasty flavors up front, coffee like bitterness and some dark chocolate. Mouthfeel was somewhat creamy, super smooth. I am super glad I picked some up, a very fine Tennessee porter, one of the best I have tried.

I don’t drink loads is porter. This one seems a little thin but has a nice flavor. Seems like a hint of wood and cherry.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
A: Pours a nice dark black, nice tan head with pretty good retention. A bit of spotty lace.
S: Very nice roasted malts, earthy chocolates, and coffee.
T: Nice and deep tasting. The malts are aggressively rosted. The chocolate is bold and dark. Coffee notes are there with some twangy dark fruit. Touches of caramel and nuts with a dash of the spicy rye.
M: On the lighter side of medium, medium carbonation, could be a bit more lively.

1.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 8/20
12oz bottled first week of January 2010. Pours clear brown, red under light, with a one finger fizzy tan head, no lacing, that quickly recedes to a ring and light wispy cap, and eventually totally flat. Aroma is toasted and roasted malts, some burnt, chocolate, nutty, stale coffee, dark heavy bread. Gets worse over time. Flavor is some sweet dark fruit, caramel, molasses, a little chocolate, malty, but somewhat watery and light bodied, thin. Low carbonation, mediocre mouthfeel. Eventually goes completely flat, the first half of the glass was much more enjoyable than the second which I ended up pouring down the drain. Second one of these and both the same way. Even at its best, I see this more as a Brown Ale or even a Scotch Ale, but pretty weak for a Porter, and an average beer regardless of style.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap at the brewery. Interesting, this was more full-bodied and flavorful than the Onward Stout. Darkest brown pour with a nice clingy tan head. Aroma is fairly rich and chocolatey with roast and coffee notes. The rye has some presence in the flavor, along with dark chocolate, coffee, roast, and a little caramel. Smooth and creamy on the palate with medium body and a slight dryness to it. Really solid porter overall and the best beer from Yazoo I’ve had other than SUE.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draft at Woody’s. Pours dark brown with a thick foamy tan head. Aroma of bready and roast malts with some floral hops and earthiness. Taste is sweet with caramel and has a little bit of hops and dark chocolate. The rye is not overpowering by any means but is a good balance. Medium body with a good creamy texture.
