3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
A cellared bottle from the brewer - and previously on tap. Mid amber, rich aroma a mix driven from the spicey yeast with hints of fruit, hops and rich malt backbone. Wonderfully complex in the mouth yet deliciously simple in the next. Finishes long and complex, drying yet with current like sweet/sharpness with spiced topping. Good cause too

Lasting off-white head on a light brown body. Malt and spice on the nose with a little grapefruit in the taste after the spice and pepper. Drinkable.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Small sample. Fruity flavours / gooseberry abound with a slightly rough and ready front. Thinnish body. A little tart and prickly on the palate. Decent length, especially the finishing hop bitterness.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at Archive. True to thye style the colour is coppery red with an even level layer of foam. Hoppy aroma is pleasant and the big punchy flavour and the aftertaste that you get is good.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Growler. Clear amber with a fluffy beige head. Low bead. Aroma of caramel, building grapefruity funk, flowers, some pine. Taste has moderate caramel sweetness, good bitterness with citrus, pine and peppery spices. Just creamy mouthfeel. Would be a bit unbalanced towards the bitter side with just the malt, but the fruity yeasty notes make it work rather well. At first it seemed to be just a hoppy amber ale with a slightly unusual yeast note, but the rustic and fruity/ spicy funk notes built up. Nice that a collaboration for a good cause has resulted in a delightful beer.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Delicious! On the nose there is vibrant hopping as well as malty and spicy estery undertones. These components weave their way through the drinking experience; biscuit-like red malt comes through juxtaposed against the subtle spiciness of the saison yeast before an explosion of bitter hopping on the finish.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Sharp, hoppy, resinous on the nose, quite a nice bitter scent; in the mouth it’s a little too watery on first impression, but BOOM, the hops and the malty sweetness kick in. Very long bitter after-taste, and a long lingering scent and taste of the funky Saison yeast; which just drags me back for the next taste. I’d love to try this on a hot summer’s afternoon; and would buy more if it were anyone were to attempt such a hoppy red ale with the Saison yeast as a more permanent release.
