3.7 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 buzz_and_hum (144) - Wellington, - JUN 8, 2012Again, those Yeastie Boys deliver. At first the nose from this lucious dark ale’s frothy head is slight, a bit of nutty malt and old leather, but once in the mouth it really hits home. Big rich chocolaty malt chased by tart fruitness, leaving a big long lovely mocha warmness. Further proof that "low" alcohol ale doesn’t mean low flavour. An excellent session ale.

Wow. Interesting one. Had to confirm with bartender if it was what ordered. Hint of dried fruit right away. Cocoa powder with a dash of honey.

Draft at blue monk, buffalo. Lighter brown pour. Nutty aroma, light chocolate notes, toasted cereal. Nice flavor, nutty, light coffee & chocolate, some floral bitterness hidden. Good brown ale

Tap at Bainbridge St Barrel house. Pours a very light brown color, semi clearish. Body was very light as well. Taste is wood, nuts, sugar, mollases, light copper, and some funk. Not much hops present in taste. Taste like a barley wine not a brown and the body/appearence doesn’t add up. Very thin and kind of bland.

On tap at Hashigo, Nice colour looked darker than I expected but it is quite dark down there. Nice Caramel nose, a little grainy/worty but pretty good beer

On tap at The Spotted Cow. Poured more like a stout than a brown ale with a darker oil our than expected. Lots of caramel and nutty roasted malt with a bit of sweetness in the background.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Jimthechap (1195) - Christchurch, NEW ZEALAND - MAY 5, 2012
Golden brown with a white head that sat thinly but with some permanence on top of the beer. It has a certain walnutty malt character, but not as pronounced as I was expecting. This beer had a good fresh mouthfeel and was nicely balanced - not too sweet. Characters of marzipan, steamed pudding and dates grew the longer it sat on my tongue. This beer has good sessionability all over it and I wish there were more brown ales brewed in New Zealand for this reason.
