Brewed initially for export to USA.
A lmited amount of kegs were released in NZ as Motueka Warrior (as a part of the annual Motueka/Yakima collaboration with Liberty Brewing)

The beer was then brewed for NZ, Aus and Italy under the Digital IPA label. It will be available throughout the southern hemisphere summer of 2011.

NZ Bottle:
This limited-release India Pale Ale (IPA) is an aggressive wee beast that is dedicated to our friend Joseph Wood of Liberty Brewing and to all those hopheads who love drinking IPA day in, day out.
Just as the term digital is all about zeroes and ones, the concept of IPA is all about malts and hops. Enjoy the rich golden malt backbone of Digital while you can... then feel it closing in as the fruity Motueka-grown hops dominate your palate and donít ever fade away.

IPA as it should be.

This ale is open source - you may not be able to download the beer itself but feel free to grab the recipe at www.yeastieboys.co.nz.

From the Bottle. Pours hazy orange with a nice white head. Aroma of Citrus hops mainly getting Orange and Grapefruit qualities, some sweet honey as well. Bitter from start to finish with some earthy notes. Not sure how old the bottle is but Iím sure the hop aroma has dropped off.

Pours a murky orange color with a medium white head...nice retention and lacing. Aroma has citrusy notes...orange, grapefruit, pineapple...and some sweet malty notes...a bit of tea and hoppy spice. Flavor is earthy and bitter...hints of grapefruit and tea. Mouthfeel is medium and the finish is very bitter and dry...tea.

In short: A very harsh blonde IPA. Just ok
How: Bottle 330ml, consumed relatively fresh a few weeks after purchase (after a boat ride from New-Zealand). Bottle sent to me by blankboy, thanks a lot Paul
The look: Almost clear amber-blond body topped by a small off-white head
In long: Nose is high alpha-acids hops with a strong grapefruity character but also pine tree. When warming up the aroma also showed notes of rubbing alcohol and nail polish remover. Surprising for a 7% beer. Taste starts with toasted crunchy malts with a medium sweetness, melba toasts, some brown sugar. Then comes a whole lot of harsh bittering hops with plenty of bitter grapefruits, acidic oranges and dry pine tree. And that harsh bitterness is joined by an alcohol bite that shouldnít be there in a 7% IPA. Tasty for sure but far from refreshing and with a low drinkability. If there is such a thing as a 7% IPA sipper, this was it. Not bad if you like intensity over class. As for me Iíll just give it my minimal 3.0 passing grade. Just ok. Sometimes I love harsh bitter IPAs and sometimes I donít harsh bitter IPAs. I hate being bi-polar. But itís awesome to be bi-polar

Aroma is VERY hoppy and has a strong note of grapefruit plus a hint of sweet orange. It pours a nice clear amber with a fairly thick and fine-bubbled ivory head. Hoppy flavor has woody and grapefruit notes and a hint of orange. Lively texture has good body and leaves a nice hoppy tingle.

12 oz. bottle. Pours a hazy dark golden color with a medium sized, but short lived white head. The aroma has tangy citrus, peppery spices, light honey sweetness and some white grape juice. The flavor opens with bready malts, light honey sweetness, crisp citrus, with a splash of white pepper. The finish is more dry and bitter with the citrus falling off a bit and the pepper getting a touch stronger. This is a decent beer, but when we have similar if not better quality available at a much lower price, I wouldnít get this very often. Definitely worth trying though.

Appearance: Pours out a hazed, darkish golden body with a slim, whitish head.

Smell: Fresh-ground white pepper over a light maltiness rounded out with tasteful notes of grape juice, honey, and shining citrus fruits.

Taste: Pale malted barley with some touches of untoasted bread and a short-lived, honeyed sweetness. Hint of green grapes. Citric burst of zested lemon and lime marked by white peppercorns. Moderate bitterness. Closes out dry, lightly spicy, lightly citric.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation. Smooth mouthfeel.

Overall: Itís good, not great, but itís different, so itís got that going for it.
