COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brewed initially for export to USA.
A lmited amount of kegs were released in NZ as Motueka Warrior (as a part of the annual Motueka/Yakima collaboration with Liberty Brewing)

The beer was then brewed for NZ, Aus and Italy under the Digital IPA label. It will be available throughout the southern hemisphere summer of 2011.

NZ Bottle:
This limited-release India Pale Ale (IPA) is an aggressive wee beast that is dedicated to our friend Joseph Wood of Liberty Brewing and to all those hopheads who love drinking IPA day in, day out.
Just as the term digital is all about zeroes and ones, the concept of IPA is all about malts and hops. Enjoy the rich golden malt backbone of Digital while you can... then feel it closing in as the fruity Motueka-grown hops dominate your palate and don’t ever fade away.

IPA as it should be.

This ale is open source - you may not be able to download the beer itself but feel free to grab the recipe at www.yeastieboys.co.nz.

Pours a orange golden color with a two finger eggshell foam hat that settles quickly leaving some lacing trails.... great citrus aromas of grapefruit, navel oranges and a touch of earthy honey malts. On the palate there is a big slightly earthy sweet malt backbone that carries the the fruity driven hop flavors to the front with a well balanced finish.

I love the concept of Digital IPA as much for its taste, as for the open source philospophy of its brewers. Digital retains a strong, hoppy body whilst wholeheartedly reminding me of lollies (in the southern hemisphere) or penny chews and possibly candyfloss (in the northern hemisphere). The malty palate exudes grassy, tarmac and gravel tones. Maybe seaweed pops up, but this could also be the environment in which these brewers are emersed. A wild, pure environment that enables them to spring forth original brews on which they will continue to build their name. RIP MCA.

330ml bottle. Cloudy gold, with a copper tint, thin white head dissapearing quickly. Super fruity aroma, particularly citrus, oranges, lemons, some stonefruit, slight cheesy tinge. Herby spices coming through, dough, some bitter bread.

A - Pours a cloudy golden-orange with a finger of frothy white head. The head fades down fairly slowly leaving behind some nice lacing. S - Aroma is a mix of grapefruit, tropical, lemon, and pine hops with sweet caramel and biscuit malts. T - Starts off with a mix of grapefruit, pineapple, and tropical hops with some bitterness and some sweet caramel malts. Through the middle, some pine and grassy hops come through with some more bitterness and some biscuit malts. The finish is a mix of grapefruit, tropical, piney, and lightly spicy hops with some resiny bitterness and some sweet biscuity malts. M - Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Feels smooth with a bitter and lightly dry and sweet finish. D - Very drinkable. Nice hoppy IPA with some nice New Zealand hops and good overall balance.

Ottima ipa! Bellissima da vedere, bella schiuma bianca, poco persistente, colore arancione dorato leggermente tordido, aroma pungente ma non cosi intenso sapore fresco erbaceo e amaro ma non troppo. Finale fresco secco amaro molto persistente!

Very hazy golden blonde coloured body with a two centimetre tall off-white head. Aroma of yeast, fresh grassy and very herbal hops, alcohol, resin and a decent amount of malt - seemingly nice balance. Medium-bodied; Very strong carbonation at first then lightens up and shows a tremendous amount of cascade and other PNW hops - very nice and pungent. Strong citrus, grapefruit, pine and herbal bite to the taste with a lot of malt following behind. Aftertaste shows a decent amount of alcohol, some grain and malt and a lot of pine/grapefruit hoppiness with a very dry finish and a lot of hop bitterness. Overall, a very nice and refreshing IPA that is very true to the style, showing a West Coast IPA, but from NZ - very welcome. I sampled this 33 cL bottle purchased from Liqour Outlet in Boonton, New Jersey on 22-July-2012 for US$6.35 (not unlike what you’d pay anywhere in NZ for this same bottle) sampled at home in Washington on 29-August-2012.

A-- Poured a hazy honey orange color. Fluffy bright white head, one finger, that slowly faded to film. Good retention on swirling and leaves a good amount of film on the sides of the glass for lacing. S-- Tropical fruits, lychee, guava, passion fruit, lemon and orange peel, grapefruit, and a light carmel malt backbone. Nice nose on this. T-- Pine and grapefruit bitterness. Slightly sweet taste and some lemon, lime and and orange acidity. Not the strange flower tasting bitterness that I have gotten used to with NZ beers. M-- Clean, crisp, and finishes quite dry. Good lingering hop bitterness finish. In the mouth the lack of malt is apparent and in a way the beer needs more malt but it is well balanced for what it is. O-- Easy drinking, well balanced IPA. Well hidden ABV. One of the better Kiwi IPA’s I have had with the Kiwi hops being used. Lacking in the feel a bit but rest is pretty good.

Bottle shared by Marcus. Pours hazy orange gold with a slight white head. Aroma is floral/fruit and something suggesting celery. Med body. Flavor is light roast malt, fruity, floral and "celery". - developing some resin. Smooth. Not harsh, but quite hoppy and decently bitter.
