2012 750ml bottle. Rich dark amber with med-large active head. Smells..belgian yeast, ripe tropical stone fruit, some sweet spice and zest. Tastes..very fruity, belgian yeast, something between raw sugar and caramel, sweet malt and some spices. Carbonated but a light mouthfeel.

There’s a heavy caramel taste, and rich burnt sugars, It also has what seem like spices in action, and the bubbles play across your tongue in a nice way. There’s no indication that this is a strong ale, no back note of alcohol being hidden by the sweets. Nice work.

It may just be the light, but ’Is Majesty is coppery amber with plenty of sparkle in the carbonation. There is a fluffy head that as it subsides seems to leave good lace down the side of the glass. A sniff reveals amber malts, autumnal orchard fruit and a note of spice: nutmeg, mace, saffron. It even smells good enough to drink.
So drink away, thinks I: this is a much more complex operation than nosing as it is full and fluffy before becoming sherbety and even piquant. The aromas manifest themselves in the flavour with style and exuberance. Never was peachiness so golden and peachy, never was an apricot so fluffy, ripe and generous. The spice is subtle, understated and cool. I was on the verge of disappointment with the aroma, but the flavour brings up three lines of cherries on the machine. It really is a jackpot of gorgeous golden fruit, elegant texture and enduring finish. Despite being only two mouthfuls into a 750ml bottle (of 8.5% beer) I suspect one bottle will never be enough.

Bottle, first glass 12C was too warm: better at 8C. Clear copper with a cream head. Aroma is bready and smoky, with grapes, passionfruit, puddingy lemon. A little syrupy, lowish carbonation. Taste is very sweet with bread, toffee, candied ham, some stone as well as tropical fruits, raisins. A little bitterness, edges gingerly towards dry at the smoky end, but never quite gets there. A bit Scotch Ale via Belgium, a bit Bamberg bock, a bit fruity Kiwi hops. And the flavours pretty much hang together. Just a bit on the sweet side for me.
