The annual remixed and remastered beer that celebrates our (still unique) achievement of winning a BrewNZ category and the Beervana People’s Choice Award in one tremendous weekend at BrewNZ 2009. This year, following on from our 6.66% "Stout Mix" of 2009 and our 6.8% Black IPA "US Mix" of 2010, we take things down a few levels with a 3.5% "mild" version for tap and handpump only.
PKB "Weemix" is pretty much the same recipe (and ratios) as the regular version but everything is pulled down a notch or three. It hearkens back to a mild homebrew version that Stu brewed upon Sam’s return to NZ in 2008. It has all the delicious malt and hop character of the original but you can easily have 4 pints instead of 2. What more can we ask for amongst all the big beers that winter inevitably seems to bring...
PKB Remix 2011 (Weemix):
Alcohol: 3.6% ABV (sessionable)
Bitterness: 30 IBU (firmly bitter)
Colour: 33 SRM (black, if the glass is big enough... otherwise dark brown)
Malt: Golden Promise, Munich II, Crystal 90, Pale Chocolate, Black Malt
Hops: Nelson Sauvin, NZ Cascade, NZ Styrian Golding
Yeast: London ESB
Any pants will do!

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Aroma: roasty, grass, citrus. Appearance: black with a red tinge when held up to the light like all good dark beers, head dissipated quickly. Taste: light sweetness, medium bitterness, hints of roast malts mixed in with hop bitterness other wise the taste we all hops. Palate: light body, thin feel, soft carbonation, long bitter and roasty finish. Overall: An excellent beer on a hot day. All the hop flavours that i love along with a hint of maltyness to remind me of the cold day yesterday. Possibly could have done with a touch more malt flavour but then the alcohol would have gone up.

2.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
I can see what they did with this one, but it didnt come together for me unfortunately. Palate was thin and everything was dulled down (as the deScription indicates). I enjoy PKB for what it is and I love its big and roasty flavours which this seems to take down a few too many notches
