A juxtaposition of styles: fresh and hoppy, yet dark and rich. Mindbendingly delicious. NZ & rest of the world brewed at Invercargill Brewery. UK & Europe brewed at Brewdog, Aberdeenshire.

Bottle. 2013 Remix. black and lacy. Big coffee nose with hops, oranges. Flavor of coffee, wood, grass, hay, lemon, paper. Nicely bitter finish. The coffee and paper flavors are off-putting.

Dark brown pour with a small beige head, Slight aromas of roasted malt and bitter hops. Flavor is thin and bitter. Not a fan of Black IPA’s so this beer definitely isn’t for me.

Scopey (9998) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - APR 18, 2014
Bottle thanks to Big Dave. It pours darkest brown with a small beige head. The nose is roasty, toast, earth, rocky road and toffee action. The taste is toasty, earth, roasted malt, cocoa, ash, dirt, charred wood and light alcohol with a dry finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Decent enough porter by any measure.

Bottle at Craft Clapham, during Craft 100, big thanks to Wingmanwillis aka Big Dave, 03/04/14. Dark mahogany brown with a moderate tan swirl and edgeing. Nose is roast malt, cocoa, toffee, lightly oxidised ring to it. Taste comprises cocoa powder, light roast, toffee fudge, hint of tobacco. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Ok porter, not getting much in the way of hops from the suggestion that this could be a CDA! Recovered fairly well from the oxidised notes on the aroma.

330 ml bottle from Portale Birra, served in a nonic pint glass. Dark copper, looks almost brown in the glass, pretty clear, with a tiny, non-persistent light beige head which went away quickly. On the nose dark fruits (raisins, figs, plumbs), good amount of bitter chocolate, some coffee notes, roasted malts and a tiny amount of hoppy presence, but mostly soapy/stale. Slightly more hoppy during the taste, in a herbal/balsamic way, together with the same coffee and chocolate presence. Certainly more bitter than sweet. Soft to average carbonation, medium body, slightly oily texture. Good porter/BIPA hybrid.

Bottle from Aeon. Aroma is lightly roasty and with a sharp citrus hoppiness. Bit earthy too. Taste is good, light tropical elements but neither roast or hops dominate. Feels like it might have lost a little, but still pretty nice.

Bottle- pours clear reddish black, milky sandy head with great retention. Nose of chocolate, caramel malts, biscuit, some subtle line hop notes. Lighter bodied on the tongue with pleasant drying chocolate and hop bitterness on the finish. Plenty going on for only 6% ABV . Dug it ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Looks.. Very dark mahogany red tinge, slightly tan sml-med head. Smells.. Roasty malts, some chocolate caramel and a slight hint of the hops. Tastes..semi sweet malts before some fruit from the hops, chocolate and bitterness to finish. Good.

Bottle from Asahiya. Medium-strength coffee, caramel, and yeasty nose. Clear translucent brown. Big earthy maltiness in initial / coffee, chocolate / some herbal notes from the hopping. Thin-medium body. Very good stuff. The roast malt and hop balance is great. Maybe a touch light for the style (even the brewers seem to be unsure about the style), but so tasty.
