COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
What exactly is this: a Black IPA, a Hoppy Porter or a Nelsonian Dark Ale? Whatever you end up deciding to call the beer (and we still haven’t decided), it is New Zealand’s original hoppy dark ale and the inaugural People’s Choice champion at the NZ Brewer’s Guild "Beervana" festival. Even better, in a first for the Yeastie Boys, we’re now bottling the beer all-year-’round... if you’re lucky you may even find it from time to time in keg.
Note: PKB was originally released as an annual release in 2008 (5.2%) and 2009 (6%) but from 2010 is now available all-year-’round.

COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION 2008
The first seasonal release from the newest kids on the local craft beer block. ’Pot Kettle Black’ is an unusually hoppy rich and robust porter balancing the delectable dark malt flavours of traditional porter with fruity hop characteristics usually associated with modern craft pale ales. The result is a rare beer indeed: moreish, nutritious and delicious. Tech info: ABV = 5.2% OG = 1061 IBU = 47 Malt: NZ Pale Malt, Melanoiden Malt, Crystal 55L, Pale Chocolate, Black Patent Malt. Hops: Nelson Sauvin, New Zealand Styrian, New Zealand Cascade (organic, to please the brewing gods).

COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Winter 2009 sees the return of Yeastie Boys much loved debut beer - New Zealand’s original ’Black IPA’. This year’s vintage is built upon the same malt base as the original but has fired up the ’chocolate and orange character’ with more NZ Cascade hops and a zesty fistful (or 10) of imported Styrian Goldings. At 6.0%abv and 50ibu it is rich, hoppy and way too drinkable.

12oz bottle pours deep amber with a tan head of foam. The aroma offers up sweet malt infused plums and then roasted malts, toasted bread and a grainy malt quality. The taste is pretty darn sweet with malts and molasses and then moving into roasted malts and toasted breadiness. All in all a tasty offering.

30 nov 3012, bottle. Dark ruby, clear, steady bubbles. Nose is effervescent coffee. Thin body and mildly fizzy. Tastes of sweet black coffee at first, then slightly tinny, serious black coffee with bitter finish. Moderate alcohol. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Dark brown with a foamy tan head. Plastic, burnt grain and chocolate aroma and taste with a pleasantly dry citrus hops finish. Nice thick almost silky palate.

12oz bottle. Pours an opaque brown-black with an obscene head with annoyingly good retention (seriously... took way too long t subside so I could have a sip.. and I poured carefully). Nose is roast, coffee and cocoa. Mouth is much of the same. Palate isn’t very complex and dies rather quickly. Average.

Aroma of coffee and chocolate. Opaque black with dark tan head. Lots of roast coffee with bright hop as well. Hops are fruity. Semi-dry finish.

330ml bottle. Pours dark black-brown with very little head. Nose is dark stonefruits with toffee and some hoppy coffee. Taste is malty caramel coffee with some raisin hops. Really nice porter.

JanLaursen (2985) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - NOV 1, 2012
UPDATED: NOV 2, 2012 Bottle, 33 cl. Dark brown with a short beige head. Aroma is heavy on molasses and leathery, almost sweaty notes. Plus some roast. Flavor is definitely better. Sweeet licorice, coffee and roast are the components that makes up most of the flavor. Hops show up in the finish with cats piss, grapefruit and a lingering, medium bitter finish. Yet another dissapointment from Yeastie Boys. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Very dark brown pour, light brown head. Aroma is loaded with roast, coffee and moasses. Molasses heavy flavor, some roast and a hoppy, slightly bitter finish.

I Think that there is a melange of things going on all of which add up to a sum of less than the parts.
