4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
330ml bottle. Pours a hazy light chestnut, with a smallish white head, which lasts reasonably well but does not leave much lacing. The aroma is very smoky indeed, with powerful notes of Islay whisky and smoked meat. There are some fairly clean citrus hops up front, but they are soon overcome by savoury smokiness. Peaty Islay whisky leads into some smoky bacon and wood smoke, with peppery notes in a dry, smoky finish. The weighty smoke flavours of this beer are kept nicely in check by its fairly light body, so despite being one of the smokiest beers I have had, it is not overbearing. A serious, and seriously enjoyable, smoked ale.

Bottle; Ale House; Chelmsford. 21st March 2015
Iodine aroma, peat, TSP. Golden pilsner base. Very clean. Really interesting use of whisky casks. Finish is alcohol and fruits. It’s fascinating. Just not a fan of this but it is well-made.

2.8 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Big peat smoke aroma that to me is like band aids. Flavor redeems things with a more scotch whiskey character.

3.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
330ml bottle. Pours yellow with almost no head. Smells like a sweet smoky scotch that doesn’t know it’s actually beer. Lots of peat in the taste as well. Rather an experimental beer than anything else though.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle, pours a clear pale golden with a small white head. Aroma is all Islay, with tons of smokey whiskey. Flavour is intense, with nothing but smoky Islay. What a monolithic beer. Not exactly good, but a cool beer to try.

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Yes, it’s peaty... hello?! Easier with a blocked nose, like mine, but still... Perfectly drinkable, and I like the unique, smoky after-taste, so there.

Bottle share. Thanks Amanda! Cloudy yellow. Aroma is earthy peat, straw, honey. Taste is sweet. A bit thin but really interesting and great aroma.

Bottle - Sweet peat, smoke and BBQ. Clear gold with a decent white head. Just like it smells, lovely peat, a total smoke bomb. Love it long time.

2.5 AROMA 1/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Tastes like someone dropped an Islay malt in a lager. Briny, heavy peat flavour but with thin texture. Smells like stale hobo sweat, like fermenting body odour. Points awarded for creativity and experimentation but it?s challenging to get through a bottle. Still worth a try.
