COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Biter is a smooth malty oatmeal stout balanced by flavors of roasted barley with chocolate malt. Gentle bittering but generous aroma is given by the popular English hop, East Kent Golding. This gentle stout will be attractive to anyone who likes a full-flavored beer, including hard-core connoisseurs of stout.

12oz, no date. Black with a small tan head, low retention. Aromas of oatmeal, milk chocolate, light hazelnut, butterscotch, and some ashy roast. Flavor was much more ashy than I figured it would be. There was also an added tang that bordered vinegar that was entirely too up front. Infected? Gone were the oatmeal, hazelnut and butterscotch. Nosing this some more I can pick out some of the sour tang vinegar that I couldn’t earlier. Bitterness was pretty low throughout. Medium thin body--too thin for an oatmeal--with minimal carbonation. I think this is my first Montana beer. Hooray.

Lowe end stout. Metalic, acidic, aspects detact. Oily, grainy, and sour notes. Why bother?

12oz bottle-A dark black body with no head and an aroma of dark roasted malt and coffee. Taste of heavy carbonation with a dark roasted malt and coffe flavor. Has potential but still not bad.

Pitch black coloured body with a very large light brown head that seems to last and last. Aroma of prunes, plums, raisins, roasted malt and plastic wrap. Medium-bodied; Strong metallic and bloody flavours running strong up front followed by bitter malt, roasted nuts and a light spiceyness. Aftertaste is completely bittered - nice on the palate with little else going on. Overall, a decent beer, I was expecting a bit more from this one, but not a horrible choice, ESPECIALLY in the south midwest. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Joe’s Place in Norman, Oklahoma on 27-March-2007.

Chocolate mahogany. Dirty-white head vanishes into a solid ring of small bubbles. Diacetyl and phenols overshadow the charcoal malts and subtle fruitiness. Hint of toasted oats, lactose and dark chocolate. Extremely loose carbonation fizzles away on the tongue. Slightly tacky and oily. Unfiltered. Acidic and sharply grainy, though some softer caramel notes develop with time. Graininess persists, as does the diacetyl, and no malt depth ever comes to the fore. Finishes grainy and lightly dotted with burnt malt hulls, along with a simplistic lingering cola-like sweetness coupled with a faint metallic twang. Pretty poorly made and way too shallow and grainy for me to enjoy.

Pours a watery red-brown and I’m able to see through the bottom of the glass. Hardly any head, just hangs around the glass. Smells lactic, balsamic vinegar, charred hamburger. Taste is tart cherries, bitter lactose, pencil shavings and some sweet chocolate. Tastes like somebody filled my glass half way with a Flemish sour before I poured this. jgb9348 brought this to me, cheers!

Pours a dark black color with a thin cream head. Roasted barley springs from the aroma. A hint of chocolate as well. Kind of watered down taste. Some dark chocolate and roasted malt notes. Expected this to have a thicker "oatmeal" flavor. Seems like a summer time stout. Not heavy bodied at all.

This stout was sour. The English influence is perceptible but I am not sure if the sourness was intentional or an infection. Either way it works. The palate is smooth and the beer is on the thick side. Some malt and roasted flavors. An inexpensive session beer.
