A genuine gourmet Indian Pale Ale of uncompromising quality. Pale with body and mouth feel it’s strength is balanced by a truly fruity late-hopped finish.

I had little patience for sub-par beers at this time of the day, so all I wrote about this was "shit", and a score. I didn’t need a bad example of a bitter at that time of day. Might not have been on top form, but I rated what I was served.

Tasting at ChrisO’s. Light haze on this gold beer. Little white head. Light dry palate. Mild minerals. Sweetish pale malt with mellow lemon citric hops. Dry finish. Not bad.

A reasonable bitter this. Nothing hugely special - not up there with, say, a Fullers ESB - but a serviceable strong ale. No point deducted for the backronym (they don’t openly profess to believing the etymological myth of ’port out starboard home’) but a point or two dropped for the IPA tag. Yes, this is what IPAs once were, but brewing has moved on and any modern brewer must really recognise this. So, a decent bitter, strong malts and well-balanced bitterness, not an IPA, and bottom line a workmanlike beer that won’t change your life.

Pours amber with a small head. No discernable aroma. Not a huge amount of taste to speak of, but a bitter aftertaste. Hint of hops. Could have offered a bit more.

(Cask @ The Crossways Inn West Huntspill. Somerset) Nice vibes here ! It is pretty fruity throughout with nice grapefruit hops that kissed my palate with friendly tangy texture. This is not an IPA in the American sense but a quality ESB with enuff’ hop quality to flirt that way !

On cask at Cloisters. Pours a dark golden colour with a thin white head. Aroma of grassy hops, caramel and musty yeast. Similar flavours. Nicely dry with mild carbonation and an oily mouth-feel.

Cask; cloudy, copper-coloured, thin head; the very thick, pleasing, chewy mouthfeel is the stand out characteristic; some plum fruit and sweet malt from the off, hop bitterness then builds, accompanied by a very subtle grapefuit undertone; a long bitter finish; another very solid Yeovil beer.

Cask conditioned at Minehead Beer Fest ’10. Gold to amber with white head. Quite fruity and a touch sweetish, there is some late hoppy bitterness and a light woodiness. A good beer without being an IPA.

Cask-conditioned at the Bag O’Nails, Bristol 31/3/10. Amber coloured with a frothy white head. Hoppy aroma of orange blossoms, with some sweet malts and summer fruits. Flavour of tangerines, Apricots and a touch of caramel, with a pleasantly dry finish. Very good.
