Can in Tokyo, Dec 2011. Pours clear golden, with orange head, white foam head. Nose is sweet pineapple, sugary malt character. Taste is sweet pineapple juice, sharp pine hop tang which lingers on the finish. Simple flavours and not much depth. Body is medium and a bit sticky and mouthful is touch oily and sweet.

Can bought from a store called The Garden (Jiyugaoka). Colour is golden and very clear with a thin head. Hoppy aroma. Taste is not very bitter for an IPA. Light body and quite carbonated.

shoulderbroken (1698) - Tokyo, JAPAN - NOV 14, 2011
Can bought from Bic Camera. Golden coloured and very clear with a white fluffy head. Aroma is pine, a bit b.o., bit bread. Quite fruity and a bit musky. Taste is unsurprisingly bitter with quite a prickly texture in the mouth, but quite solid too. Bitter and fruity finish. Exactly what I was expecting, but not in an unpleasant way. Nice but unspectacular.

350mL can. Blue w/ white smiley. Heavenly aroma of hops. Pale orange pour; tall foam, off-white color. Smells of caramel and biscuit malts, hop florals, a touch of citrus hops. Flavor of crisp malts; grassy herbal hops. Perfect balance. Sweet malt has a taste of honey. Hops have a creeper of bitterness, sharp citrus rind. Bitterness is like no other. Lingers like an American IPA should (except this one is Japanese). Very under-rated. Again, perfect balance for style. Equal in quality to Tokyo Black.

Dean Swift - RBESG Tasting. Clear gold beer, little white head. Light crisp palate. Sweetish pale malt with a touch of honey. Good bittering hops with a hint of marmalade citrus. Semi dry minerally finish. Intertesting.

330 can. Pours a cloudy dark amber with a loose and sudsy whitish rim around the edges. Bready caramel nose, showing some grapefruit. Creamy medium body with lively carb. Toasty, nutty, caramelly, grapefruity mid-palate. Mild grapefruit finish.

Can (RBESG2011, Grand Tasting)
Very vague aroma. Plasticky malts. Some candifloss sugary finish. Slick and sweet. Finish is nice and hoppy though, but still dull. Too much toffee and sugar.

Can from Ledgers. Pours very light amber with a creamy off-white head. Aromas of mild caramel and pineapple. Med body. Flavor of mild caramel and floral and fruit. There’s an earthy melon note. Very fruity, but more of melon than stone fruit or berry. Pineapple reappears. Quite a mixed hop profile.

Nena (963) - Seattle, Washington, USA - SEP 18, 2011
Can. Orange pour, small white head. Has a very sweet and fruity aroma, mango, tangerine, floral notes. Grain and caramel flavors on the body, more ripe fruit, citrus, and a lot of floral notes. Very malty for an IPA, Moderate, somewhat sticky body. Overall, this came across as sweet and soapy. Not bad, but it just doesn’t come together well.

Hophead22 (2880) - Redlands, by way of Wisconsin,, California, USA - SEP 14, 2011
12oz can. Rating #39. Light amber, dark gold pour with a decent white head. Tropical fruit aroma, pineapple being the dominant fruit. Decet amount of bitterness, more tropical fruit which adds a nice little sweetness. Nice beer. (1902)
