Draft to plastic cup at Hop Revolution Tokyo Rotting apples, caramel, pear, orange peel, lychee Cloudy amber, nearly sludgy, no head Cloyingly sweet, rotting apple, some bitterness Too sweet for me, maybe some more hops would have been better.

Draft - Oak, caramel and malty sweetness. Cloudy brown no head. Caramel, brown sugar, red wine and oak. Very nice, oak adds to the flavor rather than competes.

Bottle. Sugary, honeyish aroma. Caramel notes over the top. Pretty ruby/copper color. Thick, syrupy, harshly sweet flavors, with rancid fruit. Heavy and sticky. Some decent flavors, but overall cloying and not so pleasant.

Shared at Tadg’s, a marked departure from other Yo-Ho beers. A nice amber brown color with a nutty honey boozy caramel taste which is sweet and malty.

My Bottom Line:
Leafy hop resins and savvy caramelized malts join in this classic, British-style interpretation of a Barley Wine.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A ring of foam crowns the brownish dark red.
-Wooden barrels contribute but a hint of their nature. Which is fine by me, actually.
-Resinous hop bitterness balances out the finish.
-There isn’t much complexity here, but it is still an ale worthy of contemplation.

On tap at Watering Hole.

Draught at Watering Hole. Clear deep red/brown - offwhite head. Sweetness. Barley. Light barrel. Coconut. Rye notes. Raisins. Peppery. Nice bitterness. Fruity. Warming alcohol. Lovely.

Tap at Watering Hole, Tokyo. Dark brown-red colour with a small quickly vanishing head. Aroma of dried plums, dark fruit, sugar. Flavour is port, plums, sweet caramel, sugar. Long aftertaste of raising, dark fruit.

Wombata (456) - Kobe, JAPAN - MAR 19, 2013
Aroma: Initial alcohol and varnish blows off, leaving bourbon vanilla and raisin Palate: medium-full body Flavor: bourbon flavored malt and raisin. Finishes with coffee. Comment: Much lighter body and drier character than the Kure Barley wine which was also available at the BBS and which blended quite well with this.

tons of brown sugar, burnt raisins, a very slight hint of oak, but the barrel aging is not so prominent. Oranges and cherries in the background. Think, a touch syrupy mouth and brandy. Lingering oak and brandy finish. Fantastic

Draft at JBT 3 year anniversary. Dark, muddy brown. Flat. Big nose of caramel, toffee, oak, butterscotch. Oaky, treacle flavor, buttery, estery, raisins, huge toffee. Smooth, not too heavy. Nice stuff, though the oak is a bit overpowering.
