COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Tokyo Black is the second brand at YoHo. A robust porter, well balanced between the malt and the hops. The complex chocolate and roast flavours of dark specialty malts are combined with a floral and slightly spiciness from Perle hops.

On tap @ Popeye in Tokyo, Japan. Aroma brings deep chocolate, plums, raisins and dark fruits. Appears black with no foam at all. Taste is deep dark fruits, plums, grapes, port wine, figs, strong coffee, espresso and cocoa powder. Finish leaves chocolate, coffee and moderate booze. Overall, nice porter with a port wine twist. Good stuff. A rating.

American porter 5% ABV APPEARANCE: Poured out a deep motor oil black. Even up to the light you can not see through this. Small tan head that settle into a small halo. AROMA: Very intense and in your face coffee aroma. Chocolate and molasses in the mix with a almost metallic cooked blood smell of iron hiding in the shadows. TASTE: Chocolate right up front with the coffee. It literally reminds me of a mocha latte. Some bitterness in the middle, sweet malts some faint hops. Finishes smokey and toasty. MOUTHFEEL: Very light body for a porter. I'm assuming that mixed with the low ABV was the intention of an everyday drinking porter. Minimal carbonation. Slight creaminess in the beginning but thins out on the swallow. OVERALL: Very interesting and complex beer. Easy to drink, I will say this is the best Japanese porter I have had. 350 ml can. Pours black with a lasting creamy film on top. Aroma is espresso, dry cocoa, cola and molasses. Flavor is molasses, spicy green herb, apple, semi-sweet chocolate, espresso and dry grass. Long finish shows some mint and char. Light-medium body is nearly astringently dry and a little too fizzy with flare-ups in the mouth.

Aroma is nice with cocoa and licorice. Flavour has lots of licorice, some dark chocolate, coffee and distant herbal tones. Delicious, I like the roastiness here.

Can kindly shared by Roman, thank you! Aroma chocolate, light heavily roasted. Light light dark fruits. Quite tempting. Almost black colour. Taste is moderate burnt roastiness, light chocolate, light coffee. Simple, but tasty albeit a bit thin bodied. Very easily drinkable and a very good one overall. Finish of moderate duration, roasted notes, coffee.

350 ml can bought at Soho Wine & Spirits in Sai Wan.

Clear, deep Cola black colour; Razor thin head and residual soapy beige foam which last for 20 seconds; Nice sticky lacing and barely visible small carbonation; Very fragrant sweet aroma of roasted malt and chocolate which can be smelt a feet away, with, cream, caramel, sugar, light coffee, and hint of floral; Close to light sweet taste of roast malt, with strong smoke / ashtray, tandoori (!), nuts, black coffee, burnt toast, light soy sauce, liquorices, lime, and sharp grass; Light body, slightly slick palate; Mouth feel is watery but incredibly roasty, a full mouthful of smoky, burnt toast and tandoori roast! Wow! Also a good dose of saltiness (light soy sauce) as if I am drinking a chicken tikka. Refreshing and crazy! Black coffee and roasted malt aside, there’s not much of other Porter tastes, but that’s okay. Hoppiness is floral nose, citrus and very sharp grass taste. Liquorices shows up in right amount to balance the roasty taste for a pleasant, moderate bitter finish; Wet after taste, very roasty to mouth.

Comments: Never thought this one turns out to be a fine liquid Indian BBQ, but the smokiness and tandoor roast taste is so tasty and mind-bending it really covers up the otherwise watery and rather simple tasting Porter. Surprisingly nice to enjoy and a really good one to seek out!
