Tokyo Black is the second brand at YoHo. A robust porter, well balanced between the malt and the hops. The complex chocolate and roast flavours of dark specialty malts are combined with a floral and slightly spiciness from Perle hops.

Can pours nice and dark with nice firm mocha head of nearly creamy foam. The aroma has a fun mix of bold malts, roasted malts, molasses, coffee and a bit of chocolate. Smells great. The taste is similar with roasted malts heading into dark roasted malts and molasses. It gets a little coffee and chocolate like to midway and into the finish. This is a toasty roasty robust porter. Yummers. I’m lovin’ this.

Very drinkable porter with strong coffee notes. Moderately dry, palate is medium, reasonable bitter finish. Nice.

From the can. Very roasty aroma almost like burnt toast. some roast on the palate but not too bitter, some chocolate sweetness. More roast than most stouts but has balance as well. Very drinkable

Originally reviewed: 5/11/09. Pours a deep black, very thick. Nice two-finger tan head resting on top. Retention is weak, and there’s some spotty lacing, but not much. Smell is sour at first, but then gives way to a nice roasty scent with hints of cocoa and espresso. Very nice creamy mouthfeel on this. Smooth velvet coats the mouth. Right off the bat, there’s a big metallic twang on the mouth. This recedes and becomes a roasty chocolate and bready flavor. This is very drinkable. I could drink these all night. I was very impressed with this porter, from a can no less. Recommend.

From a personal cylindrical metal containter. Pretty dry, light, malty porter. Some coffee flavor and light acidity. Sweet coffee aroma. Better at room temp than cold. Nothing amazing going on here, but a good porter.

Pour is jet black with tan head, aroma is reminiscent of bitter dark chocolate, but quite pleasent. Flavour is initially sweet which moves to some bitter maltiness and grainy finish where the sweetness returns, in fact there is some spice like christmas pudding at the end.

Can. Heavy chocolate and mild coffee nose. Very dark brown (nearly black). A bit sharp in initial. Heavy roast malt and chocolate flavors, with nice sweetness in mid palate. Nicely balanced aftertaste. Very tasty, but a bit candy-ish.

Can. Pours an almost pitch black color with a roasty tan head. Aroma is super roasty with lots of roasted coffee, almost smokey notes, ashy and charcoal notes and some liquorice. The flavor is again super roasty with roasted coffee and lots of charcoal and ash and a touch of dark caramel too. The body is medium with a creamy and silky mouth feel. Overall a pretty solid Porter but a little to roasty and ashy.

Can. Blackish beer with a brown head. Rich malt and light chocolate aroma. Chocolate and vanilla flavor with caramel. Medium bodied. Chocolate and vanilla linger with light caramel.

Poured into a tulip glass. Jet black with a finger of tan head. A good nose of burnt malt, but rounds out with roasted malt. Heavy hitter on the burnt malt in the taste. I like it. Joined by nice bitterness makes it "gripping". Hint of milk but the burnt malt reigns supreme. On the creamy side, smoother, bubbles on the tongue. Medium body. A tasty, standard porter.
