3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Tokyo Black pours thin and is jet black. The head is mocha brown and remains for about 30 seconds. Moderate lacing lines the glass.
The smell is mostly of bitter coffee and dark chocolate. The smell, like the beer itself, is a bit thin.
The taste is only a little bitter with coffee and chocolate notes. A slightly metallic aftertaste lingers.
The mouthfeel is thin but smooth and soft. Perhaps a little more prickly carbonation than a porter should have.
Overall, this beer is ok but not great. Yona Yona Pale is a better offering fro Yo Ho.

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20
Draft - Another jet black Porter with no head and very minimal carbonation. Really coats the palate and sticks around for a while in the mouth. Subtle malt and coffee notes on the nose. Good balance of roasted malt (coffee, malt, nuts) and bitterness.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Head is initially average sized, frothy, brown, mostly lasting.
Body is black (almost opaque, flashlight tested).
Aroma is moderately malty (roasted/charred grain, coffee), with notes of minerals and licorice.
Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter.
Finish is lightly sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter.
Medium body, watery texture, lively/soft carbonation.
Darn solid brew! Very very roasty, this ain’t no kid’s chocolate syrup type of stout/porter. I’ve only had one other thing from Yoho many years ago, the Yona Yona, and that was equally solid. Obviously a talented brewer and I wouldn’t be surprised if they have some 4+ beers in their arsenal.

3.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Negra, opaca.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Can. Deep brown with a lasting russet colored head. Malty nose is chocolate chip cookies, dark chocolate, freshly ground coffee, dusty roast. Medium bodied, rich, semi-sweet, gelatinous approach and middle, malt richness and savoriness across the middle turns to a sharply bitter and dry finish - 85% cocoa experience crossed with an herbal-wood hoppiness. Exquisite malt depth and scrumptious mouth feel, all at 5% ABV.
