Tokyo Black is the second brand at YoHo. A robust porter, well balanced between the malt and the hops. The complex chocolate and roast flavours of dark specialty malts are combined with a floral and slightly spiciness from Perle hops.

Clear medium to dakr black color with a small, fizzy, fair lacing, fully diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, roasted, burnt, chocolate, moderate hoppy, english licorice. Flavor is moderate to light heavy sweet, light acidic and moderate bitter with a long to average duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is flat. (010508)

35 cL can. Pours pitch black with a small tan head. Aroma is dark roasted malty and dense chocolate. Dark malty, roasted and slight breadish flavoured. Bitter and dark malty finish. Ends dry roasted malty.

Cask at GBBF 2006. A pitch black beer with a thin brown head. The aroma is sweet alcoholic combined with notes of chocolate. The flavor is sweet with notes of alcohol and chocolate, leading to a roasted end, which also has notes of the alcohol lingering. The mouthfeel is very smooth.

Cask@GBBF2007. Dark amber, almost black colour, bubbly brownish head, which vanishes quite quickly. Aroma is mildly roasted malts, some hoppy hints as well as slight caramel touch. Flavour is quite the same but has more spicyness and licorace.

UPDATED: FEB 10, 2009 Canned (as Shinsyu Porter). Very black with rocky beige head. Appley roasty nose. Fairly sweet and medium bodied with dense mouthfeel. Oily with soy sauce, very roasty with plenty of coffee and dark chocolate. Finishes with cocoa bitterness.

UPDATED: JAN 3, 2012 Cask at GBBF 2007 ... Black ... ligh smoke roast nose .. sweet full roast malts ... very nice and tasty but lacks a bit of complexity...

Rerate fom JDW Foot of the Walk Edinburgh ...Black with a Tan head ... Very light roast malt ... Sweet malty fruit ... loads of milk Chocolate and some sweet liquorish... I take back my lack of complexity. Having had a bigger sample. This is quite complex and a wonderfully smooth drinkable flavour. 3.8 -> 4.3

can at RBESG 2011 Grand Tasting ... dark black ... soft dark chcocolate roast ... light dark roast ... dark toffeee ... little chocolate 3,.8 SO looked like UK version was better but as retired, we will go with the Japan version

Can at Black Squirrel. Black (not a surprise, I guess). Tan head. Aroma of pumpernickel bread and black pepper. Taste is coffee grounds. Medium body. A proper porter.
