COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Tokyo Black is the second brand at YoHo. A robust porter, well balanced between the malt and the hops. The complex chocolate and roast flavours of dark specialty malts are combined with a floral and slightly spiciness from Perle hops.

Can: Oatmeal and almond aroma, mild. Black, thick beige head. Flavor is char, yeast. Subtle kiss of sweet almond in the end. I struggled to flesh out any nuances. Rather plain.

350 ml can at the inlaws. Black with beige head. Aroma is roasted, a bit burnt, some chlorine or chlorinated water and some minerals. Taste is very creamy, cocoa, dry chocolate, minerals with a finish with minerals and cocoa. Nice one

Can with Jan-Hein in Tokyo. Nice black body with medium tan head. Nose is malts, chocolate and coffee. Taste is similar of dark chocolate, malts, some caramel and spices. Quite a nice kick to it.

Draught at Ushi-Tora, Shimo-Kitazawa, Tokyo. A light-brown, creamy head tops this black beer. Espresso and chocolate aroma. Meaty flavours combining with roast. Smooth as velvet and quite full-bodied. Excellent.

Thanks to the Atlanta crew for sharing this one, and Lee for his masterful can-opening skills. Pours brown with a tan head. Nose is some smoke, malt, earth, and some band-aid. Flavor is similar with lingering smoke in the finish. Light to medium bodied and ok.

Thanks to Eric for this can. Served in a tulip. Pours black with a huge tan head and quite a bit of nice, streaky lacing as it falls down the glass. Eventually this settles into a thin cap that looks nice around the edges of the beer. The nose is pretty plain and is disappointing after viewing this thing. There is some mild roast there and maybe an undercurrent of chocolate, though that might be stretching it a bit. The flavor involves some mild roast and a touch of dark chocolate. The body is medium and it has an off-putting dry, roasty finish. An okay beer, but not something I would seek out again. Thanks again for the gift, Eric. Serving type: can Reviewed on: 01-24-2011

New Beer Distributors, New York can ($4): Pours a black color with a brown head. Aroma is chocolate malt, roast, and a fair amount of hops. Beer is slightly sweet with chocolate being the primary flavor. This leaves some sugary aftertaste, but is overall rather palatable. A good porter.

12oz. Can: Aroma of malt, light chocolate, light roasting, and light licorice. Poured pitch black in color with a huge, creamy, dense, brown head that greatly diminished but lasted throughout. Opaque. Sparkling. Very good lacing. Flavor is lightly sweet and slightly bitter. Tastes of malt, light hops, light licorice, light roasting, and light chocolate. Medium body. Lightly dry, lightly tingly texture. Average carbonation. Malt, light chocolate, light licorice, light roast finish is dry.

330ml bottle. Black as a moonless night with a big thick light brown head. Roasted malt flavour with a hint of chocolate and vanilla. Lighter in the mouth than expected but very good.
