Tokyo Black is the second brand at YoHo. A robust porter, well balanced between the malt and the hops. The complex chocolate and roast flavours of dark specialty malts are combined with a floral and slightly spiciness from Perle hops.

350 ml can at the inlaws. Black with beige head. Aroma is roasted, a bit burnt, some chlorine or chlorinated water and some minerals. Taste is very creamy, cocoa, dry chocolate, minerals with a finish with minerals and cocoa. Nice one

Nice thick beer. A little harsh with coffee and roasted notes, but nothing else to balance it out. I’d drink it again, but wouldn’t be my first choice in this genre.

350 ml can. Pours black with a lasting creamy film on top. Aroma is espresso, dry cocoa, cola and molasses. Flavor is molasses, spicy green herb, apple, semi-sweet chocolate, espresso and dry grass. Long finish shows some mint and char. Light-medium body is nearly astringently dry and a little too fizzy with flare-ups in the mouth.

TimE (4112) - Tokyo, JAPAN - OCT 6, 2004
Stylistically challenged, pitch black and overhopped Porter had no head, but the nose gave off a deceptively huge citrusy aroma and the malts were barely present. The mouth was smooth with citrusy fruit, nuts and a hint of chocolate prancing around. The ending was smooth, but lacked real depth. An interesting beer that just gets a slightly lower mark because of it is not really within a style guideline.

Can from Systembolaget. Deep smell with creamy dark chocolate. Taste is also deep and full with dark chocolate, hard toasted bread and something that makes me think of milk chocolate. Full body. Smooth and creamy mouthfeel.

New Beer Distributors, New York can ($4): Pours a black color with a brown head. Aroma is chocolate malt, roast, and a fair amount of hops. Beer is slightly sweet with chocolate being the primary flavor. This leaves some sugary aftertaste, but is overall rather palatable. A good porter.

It pours a luscious opaque sable brown with a thick, fairly persistent, fluffy, fine-bubbled pale tan head that leaves a good bit of lacing. Aroma is smoky with an overtone of quality roast coffee and hints of molasses and chocolate. Flavor has tones of semi-sweet chocolate, fine coffee and molasses with hints of wood smoke and licorice. There is also a bit of a metallic tang, possibly from being in a can. Texture is smooth, oily, a little thick, with just a bit of a fizz.

Thanks Ethan. Pours black with a small tan head. Robust nose of roast, chocolate, light vanillin. Flavor is more roast, coffee, some bitter hops. Mouthfeel a little thinner than expected, but overall better than expected.

Can sample at a tasting at the Beer & Beyond shop. Thanks Naama. Pours black with a beige to brown head, aroma of fruits, chocolate, malt sweetness, flavor is bitter with chocolate, light acidity, medium bodied.

Cask, gravity dispense, at Bankers Draft (JDW), Bedford, at ’Spoons Real Ale Festival. Near black. Despite being rather warm, I could pick up very little aroma. Nice ashy, dusty taste followed by some milky sourness. Mid bitter finish, which intensified. Good pint.
