COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Tokyo Black is the second brand at YoHo. A robust porter, well balanced between the malt and the hops. The complex chocolate and roast flavours of dark specialty malts are combined with a floral and slightly spiciness from Perle hops.

12oz. Can: Aroma of malt, light chocolate, light roasting, and light licorice. Poured pitch black in color with a huge, creamy, dense, brown head that greatly diminished but lasted throughout. Opaque. Sparkling. Very good lacing. Flavor is lightly sweet and slightly bitter. Tastes of malt, light hops, light licorice, light roasting, and light chocolate. Medium body. Lightly dry, lightly tingly texture. Average carbonation. Malt, light chocolate, light licorice, light roast finish is dry.

Can from Systembolaget. Deep smell with creamy dark chocolate. Taste is also deep and full with dark chocolate, hard toasted bread and something that makes me think of milk chocolate. Full body. Smooth and creamy mouthfeel.

ChainGangGuy (4652) - Woodstock, Georgia, USA - DEC 30, 2010
12 ounce can - Bullock’s Wine & Spirits in Marietta, Georgia. Appearance: Pours a Tokyo black body with a tall, growing, toasted khaki head. Splotchy lacing on the descent. Smell: Chiefly malty nose, scented with well-kilned grains, ground-up Whoppers, and mild, less-than-robust coffee. Taste: Roasted barley, a sliver of smokiness, and some baker’s chocolate stirred up with burnt sugars. Restrained woodiness underneath the malts. Pinch of powdered milk. Faint hint of dark fruitiness. Very subtle spiciness and earthiness from the hops. Low bitterness. Finishes dry and fairly clean. Mouthfeel: For a churning and vigorous-looking it was on the pour, the mouthfeel is only medium-light and fairly soft. Sure, it’s not Isabelle Caro thin, but still. Medium-light carbonation. Drinkability: It tastes decent enough, but I wish there was just a skosh more to the body of the beer. Give it a try if you don’t mind plunking down four bucks or so for a can of porter.

mansquito (4644) - Nueva York, New York, USA - AUG 21, 2012
New Beer Distributors, New York can ($4): Pours a black color with a brown head. Aroma is chocolate malt, roast, and a fair amount of hops. Beer is slightly sweet with chocolate being the primary flavor. This leaves some sugary aftertaste, but is overall rather palatable. A good porter.

TimE (4530) - Tokyo, JAPAN - OCT 6, 2004
Stylistically challenged, pitch black and overhopped Porter had no head, but the nose gave off a deceptively huge citrusy aroma and the malts were barely present. The mouth was smooth with citrusy fruit, nuts and a hint of chocolate prancing around. The ending was smooth, but lacked real depth. An interesting beer that just gets a slightly lower mark because of it is not really within a style guideline.
