COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Tokyo Black is the second brand at YoHo. A robust porter, well balanced between the malt and the hops. The complex chocolate and roast flavours of dark specialty malts are combined with a floral and slightly spiciness from Perle hops.

Can, could not see size but likely 35 cl or so, thanks to Ingo! Sampled on April 8, 2013. Marked (BB?) 13.04, purchased late December 2012.
Dark brown color, big brown head. Sweet, roasted, chocolate scent. Malty, sweet, cocoa taste. Medium to smooth mouthfeel, low bitterness.
Nice and drinkable, I enjoyed this one a lot.

Cask at The Penny Black, JDW, Bicester, Oxon 27-03-08 and 29-03-08 Pours black with a thin beige head rim of bubbles. Very smooth but great roasty bitterness, there is some smokiness actually a sort of bavarian smoked cheesiness about this although Loz disagrees, I notice it. Lovely bitterness that follows on for a while, I really liked this.

Tan bubbles on top of a devil-black body. Spicy malt to the nose. Dark malts in flavour added a solid dash of liquorice. Hoppy endnotes. Medium bodied, complex brew (Cask at GBBF, 05.08.2008).

UPDATED: JUN 16, 2011 Cask, Knickersby ’Spoons. Pitch with a firm tan collar. Smoke and chocolate. Darkly roasted cocoa bitterness, red pepper, peaty malt and a shot of espresso. Sticks around with a drawn-out smokiness I could taste an hour later. The best Japo-English stout (in my opinion) currently being dispensed in Hinckley town centre. Say what you like about ’Spoons, they’re bringing interesting and quality beers to wastelands that would otherwise have none.

Aroma: high alpha hop character. Leafy , soapy , hint of herbal nettle, chestnut. Slight smoky hints on sides with funky twist. Nice.8-
Appearance: pours almost pure black large tanned dark beige top. Handsome appearance.
Flavour/Palate: medium bodied. Gentle yet noted high alpha acid hop feel with soft smooth body. High class had shown, very refined. Interesting American modern approach with Japanese traditions.

Can pours nice and dark with nice firm mocha head of nearly creamy foam. The aroma has a fun mix of bold malts, roasted malts, molasses, coffee and a bit of chocolate. Smells great. The taste is similar with roasted malts heading into dark roasted malts and molasses. It gets a little coffee and chocolate like to midway and into the finish. This is a toasty roasty robust porter. Yummers. I’m lovin’ this.

Cask in the sir john moore. Aroma is roasty and chocolate malts, hints of over stewed cooffee and grassy hop, but thankfully the chocolate helps it. Taste is similar nice and drinkable chocolaty stuff, but could do without the roasty bitterness.

Cask@GBBF 06’. Down here as a porter, but you could have called it a stout. Nice full flavour, roasty, chocolatey, some charcoal qualities. Nice length of flavour. Some nice bitterness.

Can: Pours a dark mahogany color with a thin light tan head and some lacing. The nose is sharp and roasty, not astringent, but a little sweet cherry and vanilla along with the coffee notes. The mouthfeel is fairly thick, but it doesn’t have much expanse in the flavor. Some roast and dry chocolate. Good porter, but a little light in the body and umami department.
