Flavor is moderate sweet & moderate bitter. Alcohol feel is quite strong. Body is medium to full. Long, bitter finish. Excellent.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Murky tan, wispy white head. Nose of heavy malt, light tea and leaves. Flavor is more sugar, toffee, really sweet but balanced Thomas hardy style. Very nice, hopefully to be enjoyed again before seven previous hours of drinking.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
330mL 2002 ed courtesy of argo0. Obviously I don’t speak or read Japanese, but the characters on the label (if you were to translate them as Chinese) say English "Gujiu". Gujiu means nothing in Chinese but may be simply heavy beer in Japanese. Not sure. Anyways, pours a hazy, deep brune with a nicely lasting tan head. Aroma of butterscotch, candy corn, baked apples, light licorice, slight apple oxidation. Taste is spicy alcohol, chalky malt, bright/red fruits, resinous hops, light soy, nice balancing bitterness. Right on the money for style.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle at CL release party 09 (flaming Fury release?). I think bottle shared by spacecoyote. Thanks! Pours a hazy deep woody amber tight carbonation and a nice lasting head. Aroma is very fruity, big alcohol (seems much higher than 8.5%), lots of big sherry and fruity soy oxidation, sweet caramel malts and some earth. Flavor is very sweet sugar dates, soy oxidation, light saltiness, almost meaty - umami, savory-slight hop resin lingers in the end, and slight solvent and alcohol on the lips.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
12 ounce bottle, 2002 vintage drank in 2009 thanks big time to bu11zeye. Pours a dark copper color with a tiny bubble of head struggling through. The aroma explodes with sweet caramel and malty goodness, a strong sherry-like note, light oxidation. A sweet dry flavor, a light oily mouthfeel, caramel, sweet candies and sherry. A bit of oxidation and very dry. A real joy to get to taste. Old and musty, which I enjoy from time to time.
