COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Generally only available bottled (not bottle conditioned). Has been seen occasionally in cask.
Brewed within the City walls of York, and developed in conjunction with Castle Howard, the setting for the evergreen television series "Brideshead revisited", this premimum bitter has a smooth and creamy malt flavour against a background of fruitiness leaving a lingering, pleasent after taste. It is guaranteed to the very highest standards.

Solid amber with a frothy white lasting creamy head. Smells of caramel malt, grain and roasted malt. Soft thin oily body. Wonderful sweet taste of malt. Soft bitter slightly wooden and herbal finish. One of the best bitters I’ve ever had. Truly wonderful and so easy to drink.

500ml Brown bottle, best before the end of Oct 2011: the bottle was opened and reviewed on 29th Nov 2011. Poured into a UK pint sleeve. Bright, clear and amber: on top an inch thick head of large white bubbles. Good hop based aroma, with some malt esters coming through as well. The malts rule the taste, neither sweet nor burnt, just pleasantly malty. A hop bitterness is evident also, especially towards the end of the sip. The depth of body is fine and the 4.0% ABV feels about right, carbonisation also as you’d expect from a UK bitter: this is easy to drink and unoffensive (more than exciting), nice blend of flavours, a good example of a regular Uk bitter.

Bottle. Amber body. Thin white head with zero retention. Fruity, malt, citric, spice, burnt caramel, fresh crusty bread. Light bitterness. Dry finish. Hint of oiliness. Boring brown bitter.

Bootle 0,5l. Clear golden, with a minimal white head. Malty, with a hint of caramel and vanilla. Sweet taste, maybe some oak. Very light body with more or less no finish.

Cask conditioned at a Wetherspoon (live rating) Gold to amber with white head. Quite a pleasant light bitter with the York Brewery hoppy note, fresh and quite sharp with a lightly roasted malt. Quite acceptable for a Sunday lunchtime.

De couleur rougeâtre très pâle, cette bitter a des flaveurs de malt, sans saveurs prononcées. Dégusté dans une bouteille de 500ml, directement d’Angleterre.

Pale amber colour. Some toasty malt at first. Light body with some gentle citrus and a soft, dry aftertaste. Would make a great session beer.
