3.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 bhensonb (8954) - Woodland, California, USA - APR 13, 2013
Pours orange gold with a transient white smear. Rather fruity aroma. Med body. Flavor is bitter, but other than that I am a bit lost. There’s malt. But the major aspect is bitter. Hop? Must be, but I can’t pick out a flavor/type. Really like the bitterness tho.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 worldbeertaste (1117) - Lancashire, ENGLAND - MAY 22, 2012
Orange copper with a soapy bubbly quick disappearing head. Smells of sweet caramel malt that would be excellent if it wasn’t for the pasteurisation club soda addition. Medium oily body with a light pickle. Taste of caramel malt, wood with a nice soft hop bitter finish. There is a fruity banana element. Unfortunately leaves a paper (envelope lick). Once the carbonation goes down its much nicer.
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 BlackHaddock (2350) - Shropshire, ENGLAND - APR 9, 2012
Brown 500ml bottle, best before 11 Jun 2012, poured into an Abbot Ale glass tankard in Oct 2011.
Light amber, almost golden in colour, bright, clear and clean looking: good solid blanket of foaming bubbles on top. Lacing held throughout the review.
The smell was fairly sweet, with a nectar and floral aroma. Add a tub of toffee and molasses to the nector without any extra sugary smell and you are almost there.
The tatse was a good blend of bittering hops and sweetening malts (not unlike the smell).
Medium body depth for its alcohol content and beer style: I found it a well balanced beer with enough points to want another.
I believe it is brought out on draught occasionally, would love to try that version.

2.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 harrisoni (10909) - Ashford, Kent, ENGLAND - SEP 16, 2011
500ml bottle thanks to my colleague Sara. Clear orange amber colour with lasting beige head. Pasteurised boiled sweet aroma. Oh dear. Some earthy hop. It’s a kind of earthy floral orange flavoured bitter with some earthy floral hop on the finish. English thinnish floral hop finish. It’s not very good to be honest which isn’t helped by the pasteurisation.

500ml bottle at home on 19 June 2011. Vintage bottle, best before April 2005. Pale, hazy, slightly milky appearance. Papery aroma. Dry but also oxidised on the palate. Some bitterness. Not undrinkable but clearly past it - hardly surprising. Flagged for re-rate. Default score in the meantime.

Bottle: Amber coloured, a bit unclear, small, stable off-white foam; moderate dry hoppy-fruity nose; moderate bitter-sweet flavour, quite light bodied; solid hoppy and fruity-bready finish with a tart aftertaste. Drinkable, but a bit unharmonic...
