In short: A rye-forward, roasted and uber-hoppy dark ale bursting with freshness. Excellent.
How: Tap at brewpub.
The look: Very dark ruby body topped by a medium beige head leaving lots of lacings on the glass.
In long: Nose is fruity-hoppy and with a lot of fresh toasted rye jumping out of the glass. A bright and inviting aroma. Taste has rye coming out strong, you really need to like rye beers to like this beer, and I do. The rye here is very roasted there is also some chocolaty notes and a bit a ground coffee. The hops blend with the rye and give a fruity-coniferous bitterness with a spicy rye twist. Bitterness level is in the medium-high range but never aggressive. Comfortable full body with a lot of very soft bubbles. Everything is coming out very bright and fresh in this beer. Not only was this beer flavorful and vibrant with freshness but it was also rather original. Liked it so much I ordered a second one instead of trying other beers. Same type of beer and even better than the excellent Firestone Walker Wookey Jack I drank a few weeks later, although the Panamah was certainly helped by its freshness since I had it at the brewpub and drank a bottle of Wookey Jack. Excellent beer from this mostly unknown brewpub located rural Pennsylvania, I’m pretty certain I was the only person in this village pub who understands why the Dilbert jokes are funny.
