COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Only available bottle conditioned.
Production moved from Youngs to Wells and Youngs in 2007.
Ingredients: English Lager malt with Styrian hops.
Champion is an unpasteurised, living beer, matured in the bottle for a fuller, more complex, multi-dimensional, fresher taste. With no artificial carbonation, the only fizz is the natural effervescence created by fermentation.

Bottle, a very cleay golden straw colour, with quite a bit of carbonation and a foamy white head. Strong citrus hop aroma. Juicy malts on the palate, medium bitterness, with sweet fruity flavours. Finish is short. OK.

Rocky head, foam rising from the bottle when opened. Golden. Rather thin, on the sweet side. Some yeast in the finish. This is not the Young’s beer I’ll miss most!

berkshirejohn (4206) - Bracknell, Berkshire, ENGLAND - NOV 21, 2006
Bottle conditioned: a clear deep straw colour with a moderate white head, fading quickly to leave elegant lacing and some light carbonation; fresh fruity aroma, with hints of apples and oranges; refreshing citrus taste with lemeon and orange flavours and an acidic bitterness to followed by a grapefruit aftertaste. Excellent.

Fresh, strong floral and fruity aroma. Clear golden body is topped by a large, fizzy white head that recedes to an ever-replenishing cover. Citrus and floral hops are apparent in the flavour along with some grainy malts and fair bitterness. Strong hard bubbled carbonation is distracting. Very light body. Tulip glass. Cellar temperature. Bottle (BB 18-May-07, Bièropholie, Nov-06).

Pale yellow in colour with small head. Light fruity and ashy nose. Flavor starts citrusy, then gives flowery hops. Finish is sweetish and oily. Dissapointment.

This is a very refreshing drink. Golden in colour. Bubbly white head. Fresh floral to the nose. Light hoppy and fruity in taste with a touch of bitterness towards the end. Dry ending. Rather thin mouthfeel (500ml bottle at The Calthorpe Arms - one of the great Youngs pubs in London 16.09.2006).

Pours golden yellow with firm slightly creamy white head. Heavy aroma with hay, flowers and citric notes. Slightly metallic taste. None of the sourness from the aroma, but some dry bitterness at the end.
