COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Only available bottle conditioned.
Production moved from Youngs to Wells and Youngs in 2007.
Ingredients: English Lager malt with Styrian hops.
Champion is an unpasteurised, living beer, matured in the bottle for a fuller, more complex, multi-dimensional, fresher taste. With no artificial carbonation, the only fizz is the natural effervescence created by fermentation.

bottled: golden brown clear beer. some slight citrus notes and weak hop. more of a light malt crisp flavor in the mouth ....nothing to get excited about and thin.

UPDATED: JUL 3, 2005 (bottle 50 cl) Very pale, filtered beer which is in a hurry getting out of the bottle - probably because of the added live yeast. An interesting feature in a lager. But absolutely no sediment and unfortunately not much flavour either. Pronounced bitterness. More of a gadget than a real beer. 120904

Small white head on a golden body. Some fruit and hoppy in the taste. Not too strong, I could well spend the evening sipping that one. Not a remarkable ale, but decent ant a good session beer.

Having had a pint of Carlsberg at the Rugby, I hastened home because I knew I had a bottle of good, London-brewed Young’s Champion in the fridge for the evening. To my surprise this turned out to be virtually indistinguishable from the Carlsberg. Began to think I was stuck in one of those ’recurring nightmare’ scenarios beloved of science-fiction scriptwriters.

Bottled (BB 05/2005)
Honey yellow color, small creamy white head, lace. Light fruity and ashy nose. Flavor starts citrusy, then gives flowery hops. Finish is sweetish and oily. This is lame and dissapointing brew from Youngs.

Pale golden with some haze. Nice white steady head. Unpleasant aroma of burnt rubber and spices. Sweet fruity flavour. Thin body. Hoppy artificial finish, notes of rubber, bitter citric fruit and candy.

Bottle picked up at Morrissons, Aylesbury 8th August 2006, and drank this in a field at Cropredy, Fairport Conventions Cropredy Festival Saturday 12th August. Mmmmhhhm.. I normally really like Youngs beers but this just wasn’t for me. Light golden colour touch hazy, some florally hoppy notes, but it was the taste for me that really suprised, it just tasted unbalanced, a sour bitterness that was unrelenting, some citrusy flavours, It was’nt off or anything just not right for me, could’nt wait to get onto something else.

UPDATED: MAR 5, 2007 (on bottle)This is a strange beer. Why the bottle conditioning when it has no effect at all? A grassy-herbish fresh aroma, can´t put my finger on it. At most an avarege taste, allmost like pilsner. But thiner.
