2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 Enmandslauget (19) - Fredericia, DENMARK - JUN 16, 2008
UPDATED: NOV 17, 2009 Kokos (underligt men knapt så slemt som det lyder), karamel malt. OK bitterhed. Rimelig frisk, men den lidt mærkelige kokossmag dominerer for meget - specielt i eftersmagen.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 yespr (26474) - Copenhagen O, DENMARK - APR 25, 2008
50 cL bottle. Pours slight hazy yet golden amber with alacing light tan head. Raisin and brown sugar sweet aroma - light cinnamon note, yes - plumcake. Solid spiced cinnamon flavour. Rather dry yet with fruity notes. No sweetness or what is drowns into the dry spice flavours. Ends with a nose-reaching herbal spiced flavour. Quite unique and certainly a beer that would go well with traditional Christmas cakes. While I’ve been bashing other x-mas brews, that have been to spiced, before - this one if nice - yet it doesn’t do to well on its own but does compliment a sweet cake well.
2.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 7/20 Finn (3090) - Tromsø, NORWAY - FEB 20, 2008
Bottle 0,5l at Dirty Dick’s Bishposgate 10 Feb 08. Dark mahogany colored. A huge fluffy head that lasted. Lot of filigrees on the glass. Heavy aroma of sweet malt. Sweet fruity flavor - like a cake. Sourish bitter finish with hints of caramel. A bit too different.
3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 MiP (12478) - Sønderborg, DENMARK - FEB 17, 2008
Bottle, 5.5%. Weak spicy aroma. Clear dark brown colour, small stable light brown head. Coconut flavour, slightly malty, not as sweet as expected. Finish is slightly thin. OK mouthfeel.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 DownsouthGav (601) - Greater London, ENGLAND - JAN 9, 2008
Nose of malt, spice and sugar. pours a copper colour beer with a beige head. Taste of sugar, malt, syrup, spice, herbs, mint with some alcohol. A nice body very festive and in my mind somewhat underrated.
2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20 Ethereal (2399) - Los Angeles, California, USA - JAN 1, 2008
Bottle. Pours a deep chestnut colour with a big white head. Strong aroma of coconut and icing sugar that strangely carries over into the flavour too. Given the alcoholic strength it is thin and watery and there is not really any Christmas pudding flavour present. This is really substandard and a let down by Youngs usual standards. If you want a Christmas beer from Youngs, pick up a bottle of Old Nick or Double Chocolate Stout instead.
2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 sm89walt (1599) - Norwich, Norfolk, ENGLAND - DEC 26, 2007
Bottle. Pours a handsome deep red colour with a fairly thick and long-lasting off-white head. Aromas of dried fruits and a somewhat odd appearance of coconut. This translates into the flavour as well. It leaves an odd perfumey taste on the tongue after the notes of coconut and fruit has cleared. This gets a touch cloying towards the end of the bottle. Rather different but drinkable and easy on the palate.
2.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 HogcliffeLenny (162) - Christchurch, Dorset, ENGLAND - NOV 19, 2007
Bottle 500ml from Waitrose Christchurch. Well, this one looked interesting but, oh dear, what a let down! Aroma of stale fruit cake with added yeast. Pours brown with a small beige head. My god, this tastes like the fruit cakes that my Auntie kept in her cupboard. Fair enough, except she used to store the damn things for ever! Not particularly memorable on the palate, either. Sorry Youngs, a thumbs down from me.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 Allen (2689) - SWITZERLAND - NOV 19, 2007
Bottled 50cl. It pours a nut brown beer with a average sized beige head. Full rich nose with hints of molasses and licorice. Figs, jam tarts, raisins, almonds and soap in the taste. A decent amount of coconut too. Slightly metallic. The jam tart-like elements really add to the taste. Some hoppiness shows up just before a bitter buttery finish. Nice lacing.
