Nice pour with good head and dark body. Thin for a stout but in a good way. This beer was very enjoyable.

Really had to sniff at this before noticing any aroma. Faint chocolate aroma. Black body, diminishing brown head of large bubbles. Nice lacing. Nice sweet hops upfront. The chocolate kicks in in the aftertaste and tastes very unnatural and fake. You can tell that the chocolate flavor is achieved by adding chocolate rather than derived from malts. I don't consider this a beer; the added chocolate flavor makes it more similar to the flavored malt beverages like Smirnoff Ice than beer. If you swallow fast, it tastes a little less artificial. This has to be one of the most tasteless stouts in the world. Where's the roastiness? Where are the coffee flavors? Guinness blows this away.

expected this would be gimmicky and stupid but it turned out alright. looks and smells like leftover liquid in a jar of spanish black olives. full-bodied. the chocolate wasn't as over-the-top as i expected, there was less chocolate than plenty of beers with no chocolate in the ingredients. moderate bitterness came as a relief when it started getting a little sticky

I dont get it. I tried this twice. Both times, very light chocolate malt aroma highly carbonated, bitter but not very chocolately. With a name like double chocolate, I expected the same nose as walking into a Fanny Farmer. No way

4.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle pours a deep brown - black color with very little light getting through and a BIG rocky head that sustains and leaves lots of lace - looks like a root beer float without the ice cream. The aroma is of chocolate malt and perhaps some coffee. The flavor is of dark chocolate with some roastiness and very little in the way of hops or bitter. The palate is very, very nice - rich and chewy. This pairs really well with a French silk pie! Wow, what a great way to end a meal! Awesome.

UPDATED: FEB 21, 2004 Dark, rich body with a thick head. thick feeling in mouth with a light after taste. Wasn't very strong. Strong chocolate flavor...very unique but for some reason not that impressive in bottle. maybe if it ended stronger. got a little watery as you finish the sip/gulp.
Rerate on tap: wonderful thick rich chocolate flavor which lasts very strongly after you swallow it but doesn't overwhelm you with sweetness.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours black, from a glance, with a nice head. Aroma is subtle of chocolate and coffee.
Body is medium with a nice coating feel. Maybe a littel thin. Flavor is chocolate and the aftertaste is chocolate. Not overbearing though. You can almost tell that its dark chocolate as opposed to milk chocolate as it doesn't have that richness and caramel distinction.
Once again, IMO, it has a strange taste to it that I can only assume is from the London water used or some type of agent added. Youngs Oatmeal Stout had that same characteristic. Still a fine brew.

dark with a thin short lasting head. Sweet cream sodaish butterish nose. Sweet taste with an overly tangy bitter finish. The body is a sucking dry feeling. Interesting, i just dont like it though. Not very easily drinkable.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Aroma is reminiscent of chocolate and some sort of industrial cleaner - not awful but certainly not my favorite. The appearance is excellent - a deep dark brown (almost black) with thick, slowly dissapating head and some lacing. The flavor is nothing to write home about. It's a little chocolate, a little hoppy, but not enough of either. It's as if this beer can't decide what it wants to be. The palate leaves a little to be desired - this would make a better porter than a so-called stout. Not too impressed...maybe I'll bring the percentile down with this rating. Hey, I can at least dream.

Picture Perfect pour into glass nice flavor. Respectable tan head. Not as chocolately as I thought but very good. Little hints of bitter. Very nice drink. Doesn't overpower you. I can see how somebody could have this with desert as its very smooth. Some lacing. As one who isn't used to Stouts I honestly have to say if the rest are comparable to this quality it could be another regular to my beer refrigerator. It definitely looks from the exterior like a superior brew. In this case it lives up to the billing.
