3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Dark appearance with a roasted chocolate taste that dominates.I had expected a lot from this one but for some reason it didn’t live up to my expectations.
Lacking in complexity and I am still not comfortable with chocolate flavoured beers. Still one worth trying - in my opinion Youngs make a great range of bottled neers. This is a good one but this is not one of their best.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Disappointing head. This beer visually is like most of the Young’s beers...blah. Aroma is faint. Yes, dark chocolate is prominant but lacks a good aroma. The appearance is quite lackluster. Still, I was impressed with its flavor. A moderately sweet taste that doesn’t change and is short lived. It’s rather light to the palate with a creamy texture. Carbonation is rather flat and a chalky finish. Yet, I find myself really liking this beer. It doesn’t have all the attribute of a brillant beer but in terms of flavor, it’s quite good. Note, my second pour produced a much better head although it diminished rather quickly.

3.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle - Very dark brown/black with a dark tan head. Aroma is of roasted barley with coffee and chocolate, but not overpowering. Flavor is roasty with a fairly strong bitterness. Finish is bitter and long.

Looks great poured from the can. Mild chocolate aroma. Somewhat thin but still like a lite version of a liquid chocolate bar. Goes great with choco chunk cookies.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Thick and creamy head, dark brown color. Dominating aroma of chocolate with malt and maybe roastyness. Great chocolate flavor with malt and roastyness. Thick, round mouthfeel. Very enjoyable.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
In the bottle. Reddish black stout. Brown head. Requisite roasted flavor, with very strong chocholate malt and hoppiness to well-balance the whole shebang. I wish it had the ethanol to mach the big beer mouth feel.

2.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 4/20
I have read a lot of great reviews of this beer on this site, and heard much about chocolate stouts from friends. So maybe it was just built up to much for me but I was a bit disappointed by this beer. I bought it in a widget can, and in the glass it looked great with the head rising to the top creating that beautiful marble of foam. My first sip wasnt’ nearly as chocolaty as I expected. I thought maybe it was to cold. I let my beer warm up a bit and only then could I detect a faint aftertaste of chocolate. I am going to look for more chocolate stouts to compare and contrast.

I had this several years ago and I always talk about it. It is soooo tasty. The body was like a guiness, but the chocolate rounds it out a bit more. One of the best I have ever had. Really Good.
