Dark Coloring. Good Head. Aroma: Chocolate. Wonderful Stout to have tried in the winter. At O.C. Sweet, Creamy and Chocolate. Very Good.

Clear chocolate aroma, with the hints of alcohol. Dark color with brown little head. Chocolate is even more obvious in flavor. Usually bitterness and carbonation come in the end but in this stout they are overtaken by strong sweetness of chocolate. Not bad combination at all, although this beer tasted very much different than I expected.

hopdog (9618) - Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA - JUN 9, 2004
Poured black in color with a tan head. Slight chocolate (not as much as I was expecting), malty, and roasted smells and tastes. This beer did not live up to my expectations.

UPDATED: JUN 24, 2004 Great dark and rich taste. The chocholate flavor is very present, which almost makes this a just dessert beer.

UPDATED: SEP 23, 2004 Can (Nitro). Chocolate and slightly roasted aroma for a beer with a dark black body and a thick cocoa colored head. The taste has chocolate highlights, but otherwise the nitro overpowers with the creaminess and subdues the flavor. No strong flavors and it just needs a bit more complexity. Bottle - still has a bit of a watery body - aroma has more going for it and there is more flavor. Definately the better option. Just wish the body was a little richer. rating is for canned. Bottle would come out to 3.6

Malakin (469) - Victoria, British Columbia, CANADA - JUN 6, 2004
UPDATED: JUN 7, 2004 Chocolate liquor aroma, very dark with a rocky head. Body is on the thinner side, flavour is light for a stout and yes it’s chocolately. The artificial sweetness flavour really starts to get to you half way through the bottle and it ends up rather unpleasant. Most overrated beer I've yet to encounter on ratebeer.

Nitro can. Pours an extremely dark reddish brown-no light coming through the glass. Pretty, foamy tan head that sticks around forever. Aroma is mostly barleys and chocolates, very light. Taste is a little sour, I think the can is the reason for that. Other than that, lots of warm chocolate flavors. Not great, I hear it’s better in a bottle.

Pours a deep red, almost black. Not opaque, though. Nice tan head, plenty of it. Actually looked like nitro, but it was from the 550ml bottle. Smelled of roasted barley, some English hops, chocolate is present. Somewhat thin mouthfeel, very pleasant flavor, much like the other sweet stouts of Bells or Sam Smith. Slightly sour with charcoal notes from the roasted malts and coffee, as per usual for these types of stouts. Then there is the chocolate. This is what really makes this worth having. You can actually taste the real chocolate within the beer. Without that, this beer doesn’t really have too much to offer. Sorry.

Pitch black apperance with a tan head. Aroma is chocolate and coffee. Flavor is rich chocolate and caramel. Some coffee notes are present in the flavor. Wow! This is one badass stout. This may be better than Sam Smith’s. This is a must try!

Nitro version. All cream and dark froth goodness in the head, and thin, watery mix below. She looks better than she performs. Very simple stout, with some roasting and some coffee. Disappointment.
