3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: JUL 29, 2005 ReRate; Bottle. Aroma of roasted malt, some mustiness and euro hops. The flavor is much more prominent than the nitro can version. Nice flavor of chocolate, roasted malt, coffee and wood. Nice creamy mouthfeel with moderate carbonation.
In the can. Pours black with a light brown head. This tastes real good, like chocolate milk with alcohol but didn’t have enough kick for my personal taste. Very little if no carbonation. Perhaps my can was screwed up. Creamy mouthfeel but it seems too weak to me. It was a nice dessert though.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
A big beer, big tan head, big black body and big chocolate nose. Initial flavour of chocolate continues all the way before a slightly smokey bitter finish to balance the sweetness. My only bitch about this beer is the fairly thin mouthfeel - still a pretty damn good beer anyway.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Good roasted malt aroma with dark chocolate aromas. Light brown head that was very full and had great lacing. Black almost opaque color. Cocoa powder flavor with a good roasted malt taste following. An excellent stout, with a good twist by actually adding real cocoa powder for the chocolate taste.

4.6 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: FEB 2, 2005 Body is dark brown rather than black with a rather creamy body which seems typical of a sweet stout. There is a clear and definite chocolate aroma. However, this stout proves to be an incredible piece of art in it’s way to present a distinct chocolate aroma while still having a stout taste: it is finely balanced. Each mouthfull brought an instant orgasm to my tongue I must say. Very good product.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Nitro can. Black in color with big nitro head. Roasted and slight chocolate nose and flavor. Not as much chocolate taste as I was expecting being a "Double Chocolate". The can had a brown film on the inside, chocolate?? I will have to try this again out of a bottle. All in all a well balanced stout.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
The beer has an appealing aroma, which is only intensified by the wonderful taste. It is thin for a stout, and this is detectable to the palate. My overall impression is very high.

2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
UPDATED: APR 4, 2005 Pint bottle, nonick glass. Lots of milk chocolate in the aroma. Earthy hops are very light. Perhaps a light figgyness also? Tall, creamy, tan head is quickly diminishing and rests atop a nearly opaque, black body. Moderately sweet, moderately acidic flavor becomes a lightly bitter, lightly sweet, moderately acidic finish. Medium body, watery/creamy texture, lively carbonation. The bottom line is: I was ambushed by the acidity and carbonation in this beer.
Update: keg/nitro version is so not good. Like 2.4 not good. I’m making my rating the average of that and my original.
