16.9 oz bottle: Pours very dark brown w/ a lasting light beige head. Very sherrry like and chocolatey in the inital aroma, might be an older bottle because I donít remember this much sherry in the aroma. Caramel & very light hints of roast as well as the initial aromas. Oddly enough is smells like it has a little bit of bourbon in the aroma as well, but probably more to do with age than actual whiskey. Vanilla as it warms. Very little actual fruitiness. Very well balanced, chocolatey with nutty, toasty malt; hints of roast & toffee; Mild sherry flavor goes w/ the age, but no fruitiness or hop flavors. Finish is a little on the semi dark chocolate side w/ a light caramel aftertaste. Body is medium, low carbonation, and has a smoother m/f. I remember this being like eating liquid chocolate before this, but I think with a little age itís picked up some nice sherry for an added complexity. Not a fresh sample, but pretty tasty anyway. Very solid, drinkable beer!

500ml boittle, BBD APR/05. Dark pour with nice brown head, some lace. Aroma of chocolately malt and roasted malt. I wonít go on trying to describe this one. I think its good. Having just had the Rogue Chocolate Stout, I do have to say that if its a rich chocolate character you are after, pick the Rogue. This is a good stout with a nice chocolate undertone, but nowhere near as rich as the Rogue.

I donít even like stout that much, but liked this one just fine. Itís rich, has a true chocolate nose and taste, and a nice smooth finish.

Pours very dark brown with creamy brown head. Nose is coffee, sweet and CHOCOLATE. Very nice flavor of yes chocolate, maltyness and truffles. Excellent dessert beer. Finishes with fine bittersweetness.

Bottle from Sainsburyís. Brown, almost black. Light brown head. Gorgeoous aroma contains chocolate (of course) roasted malt, coffee, slightly nutty. Good medium mouthfeel. Good roasty finish.

Itís true, this tastes more like bittersweet dark chocolate than anything else. Though also tastes of watery gourmet coffee and Dunkiní Donuts regular coffee. Yum. Highly enjoyable though. Iíll sample again sometime when the time is right.

Extremely drinkable for a heavy stout and this comes from somebody who isnít a stout fan. I pick up a lot more coffee flavor than chocolate and almost zero aroma, both are disappointing. Seems to be more of a porter than a stout????? Nevertheless, this is a good brew which Iíd happily drink again, especially on a cold rainy day. Overall, I find it hard to believe the label of DOUBLE Chocolate.

I had this on tap a couple years ago, and just last night in the bottle. The chocolate tones were excellent, with nice dark color and off-white head. Noticeable coffee flavor. Very drinkable beer!

UPDATED: NOV 27, 2006 bottle. this is one nice brew! very smooth and drinkable. I thought the chocolate flavors would come through a little stronger than they did. the finish seemed a little more of coffee than chocolate or I would have rated even higher. Still a "Sweet" stout!
update 11/27/06 had this on nitro tap over the weekend and was a bit disappointed. seemed to have more of a bittersweet chocolate, bordering on a slightly sour, flavor than what the bottle had to offer. maybe it was the nitro, maybe it was an old keg, but this version rates a 3.6

Bottle - 500ml. Perfectly opaque black body topped with a lasting average off-white creamy head. Very nice malty aroma with chocolate, brown sugar and roasted coffee notes. Same flavors in its complex taste that hides the alcohol perfectly and evolves as the beer gets warmer (expecially for the chocolate hints). Leaves a delicious and lasting bitter/chocolate finish. Wonderful beer. Thanks to Mr. Swanson (we met at Hell Hunt, Tallinn) for brewing such an amazing beer!
