4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
I have been longing for this beer's return to Ontario for some time now. Rich in every way - dark brown colour, chocolate and roastiness and malts in the aroma, more of the same in the delicious flavour and then a great smooth dry finish. Mmm mmm good.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: JUN 5, 2004 (5.2% ABV, bottled) Very dark brown, almost black color with tanned medium head. Mild, but distinctive aroma of milk chocolate; also roasted malt and coffee. Quite smooth and dry, roasted, medium-bodied palate. Soft carbonation. Smooth chocolate-espresso flavor, quite well balanced with hops. Lots of malt has been used, but maybe even more would fit in. Should not be drank too cold, or the aromas won't show up as well.
(Draught canned version, rating 7-4-7-5-15 = 3.8) Very dark, slightly reddish color with a tight, tanned head. Dry, coffee and chocolate aroma. Sweetish, coffee flavor with milk chocolate. Smooth, medium to full-bodied, oily palate. A nice, full and silky smooth brew. Better than the bottled because of the silky smooth mouthfeel.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: JUL 23, 2004 Near opaque brown with a thick, creamy tan head. Tinges of blood red where light is able to penetrate. Nose of rich milk chocolate, raisins and dark roasted malt. Rich chocolate is balanced by a roasted malt bitterness and a floral hop prescence. The finish is dry and lingering.

Black color, huge tan head, naturally there's chocolate everywhere, it was like a Hershey's bar in the glass, roasted & burnt flavors, excellent stout

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Black body with a big fluffy off white head. Nice mocha aroma. Flavour is sweet malt with bitter notes of chocolate. Probably the most pleasantly chocolatey beers I have tried so far.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Dark, dark black. Large puffy brown head quick to go. Roasted chocolaty aroma. Noticed a slight fruitiness. Light bitters chocolaty flavour. Roasty flavour bit over carbonated for me.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: MAR 31, 2008 Big fluffy tawny head. Heaping gobs of sweet chocolate aroma. Some smokiness. Fresh soft coffee. Jet black. Light texture. Milky. Very smooth. Old rating. It has progressively gotten quite a bit dull. Body of the beer has thinned. Chocolate accents are not as nice as they used to be.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
This beer pours black as tar, with a nice brown head. Aromas of cocoa and oatmeal and a touch of...ginger?!?!
Initial sip is very smooth on the palate with lots of cocoa and molassas. It finishes with a nice, slight bitterness that makes you crave for more!

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
From a can. Pours very dark (nearly black) with a nice creamy light brown head. Aroma is primarily a sweet chocolate also accompanied by a faint roasted malt. Smooth and creamy on the palate. Predominately a mild chocolate flavor that is joined by just a hint of roasted malt in the aftertaste.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Very smooth and creamy. subtle chocolote tast. Great aroma. The only drawback is that it was just a bit flatter than I would have liked. Comparable to Guiness
