2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
UPDATED: OCT 5, 2003 Very dark. Grey head. Very malty without too muchy sweetness. A slightly bitter chocolate/coffee aftertaste. Suprisingly weak. Not much body or richness. Too smooth and simple. I was dissapointed.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
UPDATED: SEP 24, 2003 I popped a bottle I should have stored for my flatties, but I hope there is more at Camperdown cellars; anyway, this was fairly forgettable. It's like there is a thin pretty lame english ale base on top of which some very polite dark chocolate taste is imposed. Not rich or syrupy at all, and not very complicated. The head was lame as well, and the colour was dark brown which is dumb. A gimmicky beer in a lot of ways; Oakes was spot on in calling it a desert beer.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours pitch black with tan head and great lacing. Aroma is heavily chocolate (obviously) with a roasted coffee (with cream) aroma. Flavor is like hot chocolate with essence of smoke. Perfect for the campfire! Overall, this is a great stout if you're into the subtleties of most stouts. The chocolate is heavy but everything else is pronounced as well.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap. Quite possibly the smoothest beer I've ever had. The flavor is mild and creamy, but doesn't have a strong presence of chocolate.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: SEP 19, 2003 Once and for all I’m sick of reading about coffee and beer. If coffee is coffee then it is definitely coffee. And furthermore if beer is beer then it is undoubtedly a beer. With that I bring forth Young’s Double Chocolate which is a great tasting stout with a creamy smooth texture and a unforgettable taste . And no, yes I said no fellow readers im not just reading that off of the can itself, but I’m reading it from my heart as well. Purple and orange (can of Young‘s beer Double Chocolate that is) you do a world for me uncontrollably in this otherwise cold, blank, black and un-irradiate lifestyle of bleak and otherwise meaningless and senseless existence of cold predictions and even damper solutions, rein forth and bring me thy beer, thy truth and thy utter state of social equity.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
I think this is the best Chocolate stout out there. The coffee flavor was very good but the chocolate touch put this over the edge. Very good.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Michael Jackson suggests that this can be consumed with chocolate. Yep makes sense to me. This is a fantastic stout with silky softness on the nose and a great warming mouthfeel. The roasted and real chocolate tones are quite evident as is the undertone of noble hop. A delightful beer that I would love to drink more of, unfortunately at $10 a bottle this is only a once in a while treat.

UPDATED: APR 18, 2004 This stout has a very distinctive chocolate flavor and medium head. I would try this one again.
