Smooth smooth smooth. Smells and tastes of chocolate. I liked this quite a bit but I imagine some might be put off by it. Dark red/brown when poured with a small brown head.

Bottled. Black with a creamy beige head. Lacy to the finish. Bitter dark chocolate aroma, following through to the tongue. Chocolate, chocolate, chocolate. Fare enough itís called chocolate stout, but no beer should taste this much like chocolate?

To paraphrase an old commercial, "Where's the chocolate?" I couldn't smell or taste any in this brew. As a lover of both chocolate and stout I found the idea of a stout which incorporated real chocolate in the brewing process enticing. Judging by the lack of chocolate aroma or flavor in this deep black beer Young's must be very stingy with the amount of chocolate they use. Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout and Victory Storm King Imperial Stout both taste far more chocolately without using any actual chocolate at all. Smooth but very disappointing.

Dark brown with touch of dark ruby, very impressive look. Sweet aroma, milky chocolate. Initially light-medium but with flavours that grows on you. Thatís typical of good stout .Slightly oily, would be better if was a bit more flavorful.

Beautiful tan head on top of this black beer. Roasty and chocolate tones dominate, hint of fig. Sweet but not as strong I expected, smooth and creamy, very nice mouthfeel. Minor lingering bitterness. Yummy, not just for dessert.

I can't believe I haven't rated this yet. I've been drinking quite a few of these lately and even had it on tap. This stuff is so smooth, creamy, and tasty. There's never a bad time to drink it. Dark chocolate, cocoa, with a bit of bitterness in the finish.

Pours with a black body topped by a thick lasting tan head with good lace. Sweet yet slightly bitter malt aroma with roasty notes and hints of chocolate. Slightly sweet and bitter malt flavor with chocolate notes and a slight roastiness. Full bodied, smooth and slightly dry.

Bottle: One of my favorites. Even better on draft and nitrogen. Very dark with medium head. Not much nose, faint roasty chocolate, but the taste ... love it. Also has a very nice mouthfeel. Full and creamy. Excellent!

UPDATED: MAY 3, 2005 ReRate-I just bought a bottle that was expired last month, but decided to give it a shot. I was very impressed to say the least. Pours fairly black with a nice tan head. big chocolate, char, and roast aroma with notes of baking chocolate as well. flavors are really char and chocolate. nice finish! this was just a tad oxidized, but not offensive. I am boosting the ratings on this one for shure!
