4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
My appreciation for stouts is growing, thanks to beers like this one. Very dark, opaque body, almost black. Good beige head. Black chocolate and coffee aroma, not too sweet. Hops and smoke notes are also detected. Taste is intense, moderately sweet (the obvious chocolate, a touch of vanilla), with a pleasant bitterness and acidity to complement it in the finish. Smooth palate. Very drinkable.

Can pours what could best be desribed as extremely black, with a nice milky cream colored head. There is no mistaking it, aroma of cocoa in a big way. Lacing is frothy and sticky. Taste is certainly chocolatey. However, the mouthfeel is somewhat thin, albeit a smooth watery texture. Finish, as you can imagine it, chocolatey. Not as nice as the Rogue version, but good nonetheless.

Cococolate stands out in the sweet nose. Poured dark, rather thin with little head. Body is rather watery initialy in the mouth. Flavor is sweet, smokey chocolate flavor, some bitterness in there. Silky smooth finish, kind of watery. Nice beer.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Sweet and fresh chocolate coffee aroma. Slight hops on second pour. Head is large, creamy and mostly lasting. Very dark body. Bitter coffee-like start with milk chocolate picking up in the finish. Overall flavor isn't too large, but it still seems a little heavy in the stomach.

Presentation: nice brown pint bottle, with an average purple label, but a raised ram blown into the glass. (got the pint for $2.25, well worth the price)
Nice dark beer with amber highlights. Holy head! This head is huge and creamy, and leaves some great lacing.
Hard to smell with a two inch head on the beer. After a few minutes, the head shrinks, and now I can smell it. Hmmm... not what I was expecting. It's almost sour. Not my cup of tea. Sure hope it tastes better than it smells.
Well it does. I was gonna give this a 3.5 in taste, but the aftertaste bumps it up half a point. Nice tangy initial taste, with a nice, rich, chocolaty/coffee aftertaste that lingers and gets better as time goes on. THIS is how they reel you in, because the longer I sit here and type, the more I want a sip of this brew. Damn that aftertaste is good.
A bit thin in the mouthfeel, but would I really want this to be thick? If it was thick, this beer would be filling. So this is just right. Damn, there's that great aftertaste again.
Wowee, this is a drinkable beer for the aftertaste alone... the more it lingers, the more I want it. I hate chocolate, but this is one good MFing beer.

Dark brown, almost black. Dark beige head. Sweet, milk chocolate aroma w/ hints of roasted coffee, ginger & wood (cedar?). Smooth, velvety feel. Flavour is a complex melange of milk & dark chocolate w/ lots of roastiness & a lovely bittersweet finish.

I am much more of a Dry or Oatmeal fan, but this is the No. 1 Chocolate Stout.Great black color, lovely tan head and you can really taste the makings of a fine beer it is not like sucking on a bar of chocolate! There is a distinct dry finish which allows you to go back for more!!

UPDATED: JUL 20, 2004 An easy drinking sweet stout, although (thankfully) not quite as sweet as I was expecting. Very dark brown in colour. Nice mouth-feel. Could be longer on the finish.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: MAR 6, 2004 Opaqe brown/black color. Thin brown head. Sweet malt aroma with a hint of chocolate. Very rich chocolate flavor owerpowers most everything else, but thats okay because I love chocolate. Medium-bodied, very silky smooth, chocolately, malty. I'd drink this over a guinness any day. Wouldn't mind a bit fuller body but everything else is on the spot.
