Sept, 2002: Bottle. Contains chocolate essence and real bars of Cadbury’s chocolate melted into the final boil. Silky smooth and deeply delicious, with some smokey flavours lingering around. [3.4]
Dec, 2004: Nitro can. Many brewers have taken the example of Guinness and brought out their stouts in nitro versions. Youngs have now done it with their already creamy chocolate stout and the result is an overkill of smoothness. When pouring the nitrogenated beer out of the can it looks interesting just like liquid chocolate, though it does soon settle into a more normal black stout colour, The chocolate and the nitro does push this too far in the wrong direction. In the Stout Stew Off this tasted pleasant enough but compared unfavourably with the more interesting chocolate malt flavours of the Titanic Stout. [3.2]
May, 2015 500ml dark bottle, filtered, from Tesco. 5.2% A pleasant enough dark beer. Soft and easy drinking. Lacks character, but it’s OK. The chocolate is not really that evident - dark roast malts tend to have a chocolate taste anyway. Ah! The recipe has changed - it no longer contains real chocolate, but something called "natural chocolate flavouring". Hmmm. [2.9]

This is one of my regular rotation stouts. I love chocolate, and in this beer, the taste works well. I am rating this drinking it at room temp for the first time. I t has a nice tan to brown head, the head settles very slowly. The flavor is dry, with the chocolate flavors mixed with what tastes like the soured ale addition a la Guinness. For a stout the flavors are very subtle and not overpowering.

Bottle (CO2): Expecting double chocolate, I was dissipointed by finding only single chocolate. Too much carbonation ruined this for me. Now I actually want to try the nitro version. As a stout though, not too bad.

black body with a creamy root beer like head.aroma gives off a bit of chocolate, then followed by your usual beer "hops & malts". flavor is of the same.chocolate first, then the usual beer flavor after(sort of metalic).not bad but nothing special.

my love affair with Youngs continues with what has become my favorite stout... no comparison to Guinness. opaque with fine beige lacing, aroma/flavor of chocolate, yes, but also strong coffee. nitro cans are the best. this is the stout that makes me look forward to chilly weather... and i dislike chilly weather!

Dark brown color with a medium brown head that foams up from the bottom similar to Guiness. Aroma of chocolate, and maybe a hint of licorice. Exceptionally smooth body with a heavy flavor of chocolate and malts. No aftertaste. I don’t think I could drink alot, but as an occasional treat, this is an outstanding beverage.

UPDATED: DEC 10, 2004 First thing is first, there was chocolate in the nose and the aftertaste reminded me of drinking chocolate syrup out of the bottle. not something I would want in the middle of summer, but it was a fun winter beer to have. It had a nice chewy palate, and a great dark brown colour with a soft foamy tan head.

Nearly opaque dark dark dark brown pour, nice tan head (figures...nitro can) Aroma is unremarkable chocolate, but nice at the same time. Flavor is mostly chocolate, with some coffee and alcohol tones coming through as it warms. Pretty unidimensional with dark chocolate, though, but nice all the same. Body is medium-light. Finsih is rich and coffee.

Looks like a typical nitro stout, dark and flat with a creamy tan head. Aroma of chocolate and coffee. Flavor is pretty nice, like a hershey bar with alcohol, with some notes of roasted coffee. Finishes thin and watery. I’ll have to try the non-nitro version sometime to compare.

Pours very dark caramel color, with dark tan head. Taste of Chocolate and coffee with similar aroma. Absolutely fantastic brew.
