A vinuous chocolaty aroma is also a little spicy. Yes, there is actually a bitter chocolae flavour in here but not so much that it distracts from tis still being a stout. Excessive carbonation spois the finish slightly.

Pours dark black with a small white head. Malty-chocolatey aroma. This is very bitter, chocolatey, and roasty. Very thick too. Yum.

it pours nice and dark but not as thick and rich as many others, decent tan head. Smells like licorice and chocolate. Good flavor, burned nuts, chocolate, maple syrup and blow-molded gnomes. Palate is a little thin, not a real strong finish either. Gets points for being available all over.

This was one of the first beers I ever had and I still go back for it. Smooth, velvety and of course chocolate.

Poured very dark, with a large tan head. Left nice lacing on the glass. Sweet chocolate/roasty character in the taste. Great dessert beer.

Dark color. Nice tan head that left a beautiful lacing. Aroma was chocolaty. As for flavor, it stared out with a roasty sweetness that developed into a chocolaty candy finish. Left a sugary malty flavor in my mouth.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: SEP 19, 2004 Very dark with a nice tan head. Smells of chocolate and roasted barley. Velvety smooth. Starts with roasted flavors that lead to dark chocolate and malts.
Re-sampled 9/19/04, I am surprised I had this so high before, much thiner and watery than I remember. Also alot less chocolate. Still has some nice flavors, but not as good as I once thought.

Color of this yummy chocolate is deep, brown, almost black like a dark chocolate candy. Nice tan head, frothy foam about a finger high, fades a little leaving patchy lace. Smells of very sweet and rich chocolate with a nice creamy lightness, notes of ginger spice and nuts. Taste echoes the smell, its got a good amount of chocolaty flavor thats sweetly bitter but not overbearing. It stays nice and silky smooth the whole way through with a good chocolatey twinge thats quite nice in the finish and feel. Some faint notes of hop presence and ginger and is medium to heavy bodied. This is a great stout for having around Halloween and the winter Holidays when everyone starts eating more sweets, I've always got a few bottles just waiting for me to have as dessert. Super yummy stuff.

Dark chocolate notes are very obvious in the nose, along with rich, roasted malt. Body is opaque and head is a thick and smooth tan color, much like Guinness. When consumed from the can, the pour is also reminiscent of Guiness, courtesy of the pressurized widget. Has a subtle flavor, and as "shintriad" mentioned, is not all that chocolatety. (not sure what Spiesy was tasting) Frankly, also like Guinness, this brew could use just a touch more sweetness to awaken the taste buds. In keeping with the Guinness comparisons, I think I would prefer this to a Guinness, but it's close.

Not all that chocolatey, but hey, it's still a beer, after all. Not much nose to it, the body and colour were decent, and it has a great aftertaste, almost a candy apple sweetness at the back of your throat. I wish it were easier to find.
