Production moved from Youngs to Wells & Youngs in 2007. Brand acquired solely by Charles Wells in 2011.
Ingredients: Pale ale and crystal malt, chocolate malt, special blend of sugars, Fuggle and Goldings hops, real dark chocolate and chocolate essence.
Chocolate malt and real dark chocolate are combined with Young’s award winning rich, full flavoured dark beer to craft a satisfyingly indulgent, but never overly sweet experience.

Bottle. Very malty aroma with coffee, nutty, and roasted notes. Flavor was rich in roasted malts and dark chocolate. Dark brown color, with thin filmy brown head. Low carbonation.

Piwo brunatne lekko metne z bezowa niezbyt obfita piana. W aromacie kawa z mlekiem, mleczna czekolada i lekka palonosc. W smaku dosc slodkie z wysyceniem na srednim poziomie i srednia goryczka. Czuc kawe inka, czekolade deserowa i finisz kwaskowy od kawy. Dosc lekkie i wodniste przez co dobrze pijalne. Niezbyt zlozone, za malo tej czekolady.

Zrobiłem porównanie z shakem z podwójną czekoladą i moim zdaniem to piwo bardziej pachnie kawą niż czekoladą. Co prawda po ogrzaniu czekolada wychodzi bardziej ale nie wiem skąd ta nazwa Double Chocolate. Piwo pachnie kawą, w smaku zaś jest całkiem niezłe bo ma przyjemną paloność i popiołowość. Generalnie jednak jest to raczej zwykły stout niż stout z podwójną czekoladą.

500 ml bottle. Black pour with muddy mahogany highlights.Small head persists to bottom of glass leaving spotty lacing. Aroma is sweet molasses, roast grains, with mineral/metallic edge. Taste is more molasses, maybe sorghum. I’m not getting much chocolate. Thin, watery though perhaps in keeping with some English pubs. Too sweet, cloying for me.

UPDATED: JUL 5, 2016 Bottle in wine glass. Pours with a medium black viscosity, leaving a finger thick beige frothy head. Aroma is cakey with chocolate and vanilla that follows on the palate. A bit watered down but expresses some fine notes that lingers for quite a bit.

Bottle@ Whole Foods . Nice aroma of cocoa & dark fruits. Taste of bitter dark chocolate with a hint of dark fruits. Not much complexity. Bit thin & watery, like many English Ales. Not great but it was refreshing. Wouldn’t have it again unless there was nothing else.
