4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20i really like this beer. it’s not quite love, but out of the chocolate stouts i’ve tasted (limited quantity), it beats out a few. why? the marshmallow mouthfeel. it’s a sweet stout. it’s a beautiful dar beer that really has a lot to say. i can taste the hoppiness, but it’s just the right amount; not overbearing, just noticable. it’s more malty. it has a nice head on it too - off white, foamy but sustained. i’ve never really liked the flavor of chocolate, but in beer it is definitely ok. i’m also happy to find a beer i enjoy that has a bit of espresso flavor to it. appropriate bitterness on the tail end. it’s a wonderful wintery ale.

50cl bottle from Brook Fall Discount. Pours a very dark brown with a tan head leaving very nice spongey lacing. Aroma has caramel and molasses, and later cocoa. Taste is of sweet cocoa, molasses, rolled oats and caramel malts. With liquid chocolate. Sweet and syrupy, but also nicely dry with some bitterness. Medium bodied. Finishes sweetly bitter and smooth.Not quite as good as my prior memories of this, but solid and tasty.

44 cl can @ home. Pours black with a tan head that leaves a lot of lacing. Aroma is milk chocolate, cocoa, and a little roasted malt. Flavour is pretty much just like the aroma – with a slightly bitter finish.

Bière noire – ornée d’une faible mousse – qui laisse percer un reflet rouge à la lumière. Le nez est tout en chocolat noir; aussi bien le manger. En bouche, la bière est étonnement mince et pétillante. Le problème se règle alors que le liquide se réchauffe tranquillement. De douces notes de café sucré et de chocolat s’échangent le terrain de jeu sur les papilles. Excellente en black velvet, cette double chocolate stout se laisse très bien déguster au naturel.

Draft. Pours a deep black color with a dark tan head and heavy lacing. Aroma has mild chocolate notes with dark toasted malts. Flavor is quite sweet, with chocolate character even more present. Burnt toastiness also present in flavor. Body is full, but not overwhelming. Very mild carbonation. Pretty excellent stout.
