3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle conditioned as Young’s London Gold (4.8%). Medium white head with poor retention. Pale orange-gold body. Nose is sulphur and lots of English hops, oranges and minerals, fruity. Good dose of gentle bitterness. Moderate carbonation. Dry finish. Refreshing and warming. Like a toned down White Shield. Good, but lacks complexity, and the head retention that you would expect from a bottle conditioned beer.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle 50 cl courtesy of Ott’Biir (Avellino, Italy). Didn’t expecting much from a Young’s one, but this is really terrible. Aroma is floral just a little, but full of rotten eggs (don’t think it’s oxidated, I’m sure enough that it is REALLY like that); just other notes among straw and hops and... Fanta. Yeah, not orange: F-a-n-t-a. That means a chemical character. Body is totally override by carbonation, head is minimal and color totally clear (I can see the phrase print on the other side of glass), intense yellow. Bah. Like a macro-lager with yeasty notes, incredibly watery. Just some hops and dryness in the finish like grass, but tends on metallic. Only merit is the long-lasting, but really boring anyway. London what? Gold of sewers, maybe.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Dec 2009: Bottle conditioned, so poured slowly into a vase shaped pint glass, two and a half months before its BBD. What little sediment there was stayed within the bottle.
Golden orange colour with not much of a head, the pour might have contributed to the poor head though?
Mild citrus aromas along with some hops esters and light malts.
Sharp, crisp and refreshing, almost lager-like in the first sip. The hops then take over and a bitterness not found in many lagers comes to the fore.
A bit lightweight in the body, lacks depth and complexity.
A Mr Average beer, not unpleasant, but not something I’ll look out for again.

Bottle - Fruity hoppy nose, some citrus (grapefruit) with a thin lacy head. Clear golden with little light bubbles. Smooth. Citrus, sweet malt, some fruity (peachy) parts with a nice dry bittersweet wood earthy finish. Refreshing and enjoyable

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Two bottles bought from Lidl. Having read some ratings I wasn’t expecting much. Well, It poured bright gold with a dense white head that lasted all the way through. Sweaty aroma and a yeasty, metallic taste with a bit of cereal that wasn’t unpleasant. Tasted more like a lager than a golden ale however; The major issue for me was carbonation. Really gassy, I was struggling with the second bottle.
