1 pt. bottle, BB 21 MAR 07. App.: very dark black-brown, foamy mocha head. Aroma: some chocolate and coffee, typical deep-roasted characteristics, maybe a fruity, vinous note too. Palate: fairly full bodied and creamy, med.-low carbonation. Flav.: sweet malt flavours (toffee, caramel) without sweetness. Fruitiness and wine flavours follow and stick. A bit of citrusy hops at the end. I’ve always loved how this brew is so full and flavourful but disappears when swallowed. I don’t consider it a bad thing! orville (160), Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Nov 15, 2006 This stout pours a nice cafe colored head and smell like samuel smith but is nowhere near as good. Tastes of roasted barley that gives way to a slight bitter. Too mild and really has no distictive flavor that makes it stand out. Not a bad beer, but forgettable. tiggmtl (4312), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Nov 15, 2006 Pleasant dark fruits, marzipan, nutty malts and some roast in the nose. Faint hints of licorice. Opaque dark brown body is topped by a large, dense, fine bubbled, tan head that lasts well and laces the sides of the glass. Cookie dough malts with plenty of chocolate and dark fruit flavour. Floral, earthy hops are apparent toward the end with moderate dark malt bitterness in the finish. Somewhat salty in the aftertaste. Medium body is velvety in texture with very nice bubbly effervesence that dimples the tongue and cheeks. Snifter. Cellar temperature. Bottle (BB 16-May-07, Bièropholie, Nov-06). | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Nov 12, 2006 Poured out a nice dark, somewhat thick. Formed a nice beige foam head. Aroma of lovely chocolates, coffee and malts. Taste of burnt coffee, chocolates and hops. Was very yummy. Well done my British friends! A very tastey beer, would love to try it on tap. shrubber85 (3025), Wallhalben, Germany
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Nov 11, 2006 Bottle. Strong oatmeal and chocolate malt aroma. Dark brown/black color with moderate head. Nice flavor of chocolate and oatmeal malt with a smoky finish. Fairly light but overall an excellent beer. BigBen2120 (688), Derry, New Hampshire, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Nov 11, 2006 Opaque dark brown/black body with a finger of tan head. Smells like chocolate malt. Tastes roasty and sweet, with chocolate malt quite apparent. Full bodied. Tasty, but not as robust as Samel Smith’s... radagast83 (1317), Fairfax, Virginia, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 7, 2006 On tap at Stout NYC -- nice and creamy half inch tan head lasting half a pint, and a shiny ebony hue (in the dimly lit beer bar). First pull savor the fine roast aroma and taste of a nicely balanced sweet and silky (and somewhat malty) oatmeal stout. Very nice indeed.
