smashteroid (148), USA Mar 30, 2008 I’ve always preferred the Oatmeal stout to Young’s Double Chocolate stout. I’ve always had it served cold from tap. It pours black with a rich tan-colored head. Aroma is highlighted with roasted malts and some coffee, chocolate and caramel. Great mouthfeel, solid flavor with creaminess, sweetness and notes of the chocolate and coffee. Slightly hoppy finish. A solid Oatmeal stout.
Fruitfly (40), , Pennsylvania, USA Aug 22, 2008 BB Nov 11, 2008. Head retention and lacing are attractive but average for an IS. Smoke is the dominant aroma with wood, toffee, and yeast, in second, third, and fourth. These secondary aromas have to be coaxed out from under the light malt. Medium body and even with a very light sweetness. Finish is good and even. An OK stout but not one I’d highly recommend. darn1207 (258), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Aug 10, 2008 rating this a day later from limited notes: bottle. dark brown pour. aroma of chocolate, figs and leather. straightforward on the taste w/ coffee and roasted malt. need to do a proper re-rate. uhclem (122), Loveland, Colorado, USA Aug 9, 2008 Nice pour. Very dark brown with a substantial mocha head and nice lacing. This sets up the aroma, which is a decent blend of roasted malt, chocolate and a hint of coffee. The high expectations are dampened by the taste - a muddy mix overtaken by alcohol. Mouthfeel is oily and the finish is brass and more alcohol. A disappointment. KawaBomber (149), New Jersey, USA Jul 14, 2008 500mL Bottle: Pours dark brown, almost black w/ a medium sized brown head that splits rather quickly, leaving minimal lacing behind. Sweet roasted malt aroma, a little light chocolate in there too. Flavor holds some nice roasted malts similar to the aroma. Nice smooth beer, but not great. Eh... ditmier (190), Boise, Idaho, USA Jul 13, 2008 2008 Bottle - Pours dk brown with a small brown head, aroma is toasted grain, caramel malt...decent floral bitter but still a bit thin...meh
