2.7 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Cask, handpump @ The Grove, Exmouth, Devon. Deep copper body, bright as bright. Head a thin sheen of white, dense and well retained. Not all too pleasing aroma of burnt bread and burnt sugar, salty peanuts, pine resin, earth and praline. Heavily salted nuts and peanut skins in the mouth which lingers long on each swallow. Slightly tannic and astringent backend, good level of malts aid it, toasted and roasted , subtly ashen and earthy. Not too much hop presence, subdued bitterness more malt than anything. Quite dry throughout, good firm body. Overall a bit heavy for me, not very sessionable, but it does keep the thirst up!

UPDATED: SEP 13, 2007 Cask at The George (Temple - London).
Light and much compact head, good persistence. Limpid red color, fast and without fizz. Classic scent, toasted, bitter and with notes of malt and cask/wood. Barren and balanced taste, much alcoholic and bitter on the end. Valid and altogether persistent.

This one poured a clear golden amber with a decent head that clung on to the side of the glass and left some solid lacing. The smell was very light with a nice balance of sweet malts and mild hops. There was a also a decent fruity sweetness in the aroma as well. The taste was also dominated by the mild sweetness of the malts with a slight hop bitterness in the finish. Mouthfeel was very creamy and smooth and was very drinkable overall.

Handpump at the Coach & Horses, Kew. Pours reddish brown with a fine white head, grassy hops and some sweet biscuity malt on the nose, but crisp, dry and almost roasty on the tongue. A little sweetness and burnt orange in the body, then a drying bitter finish. Pleasant enough but a bit thin.
