COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle Conditioned. Occasionally available in the cask.
Production moved from Youngs to Wells & Youngs in 2007. Brand acquired solely by Charles Wells in 2011.
Ingredients: Maris Otter and Crystal malt; Fuggle and Goldings hops. Dry hopped with Golding and Target hops. Re-pitched with fresh yeast and wort in the bottle.
Young’s Special London Ale is the UK’s No.1 bottle conditioned ale. It is an unpasteurised, living beer, matured in the bottle for a fuller, more complex, multi-dimensional, fresher taste. Without artificial carbonation, the only fizz is the natural effervescence created by fermentation.
“A wonderfully balanced, deep-golden strong bottled ale, brewed from pure malt and a phenomenal amount of hops. A lively, fruity character with suggestions of banana and orange zest.”
CAMRA Champion Bottled Beer of Britain - 1999.

Fruity hops aroma with a hint of malt, thin white head, smooth, fruity and crisp with a mild bitterness at the end. It’s good stuff.

Cor âmbar, um pouco turva, com colar branco de boa formação e persistência. Muito aromática, floral, lembrando geléia de laranja. Amargor muito presente, persistente, compondo um belo conjunto com o malte. Bom corpo. Bom retrogosto. Difícil beber apenas uma.

Amber a bit hazy color, small white head. Sweet aroma of malt, caramel, toffee, some fruits, wood, nuts and grass. Taste has similar notes, dry sweet with medium bitter hoppy finish. Medium body and soft carbonation. Nice English ale, highly drinkable.

Poured a hazy amber colour with a big (three-finger plus thick) off-white coloured frothy head that retained quite a while and ultimately diminished to a collar of bubbles. Carbonation moderate to high with small to large bubbles forming trails; carbonation worked throughout the drink. Laced decent as curtains and spots. Aroma subtly of caramel malt and earthy hops - overall low level aroma. Taste fresh with some caramel malts, a hint of spices, earthy hops and maybe some fruits, maybe a bit of alcohol coming through – overall not too strong. Medium body. Long smooth bitter finish.

Bottle. BCA – Amber/gold in colour. Malty, fruity, hoppy strong ale. Very malty; caramel & toffee. Very fruity; citrus-orange. Heavily-hopped; spicy, peppery, flowery and earthy hops. Nice malt/fruit/hop balance. Sweetish with slight bitter hop edge. Long malty fruity drying and spicy hop finish. Lovely beer!

Veldig god ale. Fyldig smak og fruktighet. Denne er god til litt spekemat og krydret brød. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

50 cl bottle, abv 6.4%, b@Vinmonopolet. Off white head, dense, creamy, fading to a soft ring. Light amber body, 99% clear. Scents; bread, prunes or raisins, caramellic malts. Taste; roasted malts, orange, hops, caramel/dark syrup, hints of berries, some imagination of banana peel, barbecue, ghosts. Finishes gently bitter just, and hops and malts fade out nicely fruity. Overall well balanced, worth keeping recipe, recommendable.
