Although curiously lacking in aroma - I detected rusty iron and some grassiness, nonetheless, the flavor is rich, malty and has elements of honey and citrus. The color is a beautiful amber, head negligible, carbonation smooth and almost draught-like...nice mouthfeel. The best thing of all though is how this ale fills your mouth with spicy, herbal hoppiness English-style, the hops are present from start to finish but are elegant and well-integrated into the overall character of the beer. Heavy-handed NW U.S. brewers could learn a few things about sublety from this brew, IMHO, at least when they are trying to make an English style ale. Yeast adds a fruitiness and fullness as well. This is a fine English ale.

Kind of like a British IPA. The bottle conditioning serves it really well. Nice and bitter. However, the aroma is a real problem on this one - like a dead bat that’s been urinated on by a tramp. I don’t know how its even possible for this to smell so bad because luckily the flavour is nice, with English hops that balance out solid maltiness.

Bottle from Tesco. Deep Amber colour with a white head. Aroma of coca and fruit. The taste surprised me with too.

Great beer! Beautiful ochre tinged Amber with a fine bubbled, white, long lasting head once you give it a vigorous pour. Moderate carbonation. Malty, saazy aroma I don't particularly enjoy. Wonderful, slightly sweet malty flavour with great complexity. The Saaz type hops flavour is complementary upon tasting.

"this is a slightly dark, medium bodied, and well balanced ale. it won’t do anything that makes you stand up and take notice, but it’s pretty solid if not extraordinary."

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Strong aroma of hops in the bottle and glass. Pours a wonderful golden colour in the glass with a frothy cream head that lasts reasonable well. Good lacing. Feels lively in the mouth, very easy to drink. Very tasty flavour of hops, fruit and a spicy aftertaste. A great beer that packs a punch with a high alcohol concentration!

UPDATED: DEC 15, 2014 500ml bottle served in an English pint glass.
A: Pours a dark orange to amber color. Clear. Forms a medium bubbled and aired white to yellow color. Many lacing are formed and left in the glass
S: Sweet grains. Toffee and caramel malts. Flowery citrus hops. Bready and fruity Ale yeasts
T: Slightly sweet malts. A bit fruity too. Toffee, caramel malts, grapes, brown bread. A little bit metallic. End is hoppy and bitter. Not extremely, just as a good ESB should be :)
M: Light body. Medium carbonation. Grainy and bitter aftertaste. Great balance
O: Excellent drinkability. Great British ale. Recommended

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Apparently originally made by the brewer for his wife of Belgian descent... Cloudy ochre blonde colour, soft malty character with delicate fruitiness and sharpish, ’green’ hop bitterness in the finish (dry-hopping), long-lasting and almost IPA-like. Deservedly a prize winner.
