COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask: Seasonal - October to Jan.
Production moved from Youngs to Wells & Youngs in October 2006. Brand acquired solely by Charles Wells in 2011.
Ingredients: Maris Otter and crystal malt with cane sugar added to the copper with Fuggle and Golding hops.
The definitive winter beer and a long-time Young’s favourite, Winter Warmer is a champion cask ale that is an essential warmer during the winter months.
"Rich ruby coloured beer, almost red in bright light. Complex fruity nose with hints of candy. Luscious and full bodied, with a powerful mouth-coating flavour leading to a bittersweet, vinous finish."

cask@Pied Bull, Streatham, London (drunk in a comfy leather armchair next to a roaring open fire) - Pours a dark brown colour with a persistent frothy head and lacing. Dark roasted toasty malts, nutty, rich dark fruits, christmas cake like, some spice, slight caramel/toffee/choc, good mouthfeel. Almost back to as good as I remembered back in the early 90s (and certainly much better than over the last 5 years I have tried it)

Cask, The Marquess of Anglesey, Covent Garden, 12/12/15. Pale red with a shrinking off white top. Nose orange peel, pine cones and fresh-pinched Fuggles. Alt-like with crushed nuts, bread and a discreet orange peel and red apple fruitiness on the belch. Almond and cashew linger. Fine advert for dull old school cask English if you’re a bit jaded by designer freezing cold keg that tastes of shower gel. Highly likeable.

Cask-conditioned at the Bristol Ram, Bristol. Chestnut coloured with a moderate off-white head. Caramel, malty aroma with some fruit in the background. Flavour was sweet, with toffee, nuts and a hint of roastiness. Good.

(Cask at Lamb, Bloomsbury, London, 23 Nov) Dark ruby colour with a brief beige head. Fruity nose with malty notes of port wine, nuts and dried fruit. Fruity taste with a malty backbone, notes of dried fruit, nuts, prunes and a slightly vinous note of port. Very tasty and nice.

UPDATED: FEB 10, 2004 Dark and wholesome. Toffeeish nose. Fruity and malty throughout. Decent winter beer but not really my favoured style of beer - could do with a higher alcohol level and hop bite to temper the sweetness. Handpump, Buckingham Arms, London SW1, November 2003

larsga (7293) - Oslo, NORWAY - DEC 12, 2005
Thin, coarse-laced off-white head on dark red body. Faint sourish aroma of nuts and faint sweet roastiness. Taste is smooth, clean, nutty maltiness; quite bitter. Aftertaste is drily nutty, with hoppy bitterness lingering. Clearly a well-made beer, but rather subdued. (Cask at the Britannia.)

A Mes rate: From the White Horse. Creamy malt nose. Translucent dark red body with just a thin film for a head but leaves nice lacing. tastes like French toast with a berry finish with some malt. Standard palate. Nothing to write home about.

Cask. Deep brown color with an off-white head. The aroma’s dominated by the crystal malts with toffee and caramel coming through on the nose. The taste is light, a bit sweet and watery. The body’s medium. This is a pretty forgettable ale, but it’s not without some merit.
