3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 tombyars (1204) - Saltcoats, SCOTLAND - MAR 12, 2012
First had this winter warmer in Gabriels, Paisley in January 1995. Cask, handpump dispense. Ruby black in colour with a creamy white head. Slight stout like aroma from black malt and nutty roast malts as well. Dark malts give a sweet millionaire shortbread like taste with smooth creamy caramel and sweet raisin and sultana fruit notes full in the mouth. Dry hops appear in the short bitter aftertaste. Malt returns in the sweet vinous finish with port like flavours tangy in the palate. A classic Winter Warmer.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Gary (1132) - Rochester, Kent, ENGLAND - JAN 17, 2013
cask @ The Coopers . Rochester. Drank from a jug ! a real ’grandpha’ type of ale that would go well with chess and slippers ...Im 31 years old and can say this tepid brew is not bad . It gives me the illusion of feeling drunker than its 5% booze would create after just one or two ! Its maybe because the treacly palate and rich fatty mouthfeel make this beer feel heavy and tougher than it truly is ! The flavours are almost sicky with notes of sugar coated raisin ...burnt liquorice ..burnt caramel roast and loads of syrup ....All in all this aint bad ....

3.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 BeerViking (1426) - Lüneburg, Lower Saxony, GERMANY - DEC 23, 2008
UPDATED: JAN 8, 2010 Re-rated for the 2009/10 version: Cask/handpump at the Express in Brentford. A deep red with a coarse off-white head, aromas of chocolate and dried fruit are followed by a roast malty and dry/sweet body, with a drying finish and hints of orange. Very nice, but not as satisfying as in previous years.
2008/9 version: Cask/handpump at the Old Ship in Richmond upon Thames. Dark ruby with a thin but tight beige head. The aroma is fruity with hints of plums, demerara and lemons and just a touch of yeast. Very full-bodied with a rich yet drying and almost nutty palate. Big satisfying treacle and hops aftertaste. 7/4/8/4/16

Appearance good dark ruby, thin light tan head. Aroma is smooth, some kind of acidic attack in the nose, hoppy, quite a bit of malt. Flavour is biscuity, malty, hint of sour hops, no alcohol present in the mouth. Little bit harsh on the palate. All in all, quite good.

[Cask at Charlies Bar, Copenhagen] A hazy deep red beer with a nice brown head. The aroma is sweet nutty and malty. The flavor is sweet with strong notes of nuts, but also roasted malt and caramel, as well as light notes of wood and alcohol.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 JorisPPattyn (7306) - Antwerpen, BELGIUM - JAN 30, 2007
Cask Pretty sure this one was still Wandsworth brewed, FTR. Dark chestnut with garnet highlights; B.C. "H.". Fruity, dark malts, a few meaty esters, and some acetic acid... Mild sweet taste, quite fruity, as cherries, ending in a kind of sweetness that is peculiar to this type of beer. Muscovado? Candy. Medium bodied, quite slick, alcohol-dryness (as the "tears" on a sherry glass). Enjoying the last of the real stuff?
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 kwik-lime (866) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - DEC 14, 2010
Deep reddish-brown, sugary malts, plums, raisins and a hint of nuts and wood. This is pretty nice but palate seems thinner than I remember. Not that complex but still a good beer.
