2.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
Rated while drinking: Coke-colored with a small tan head and above-average lacing. Roasted and malty with a bit of a sour aroma. Tiny bit of chocolate and roasted nut flavor. Subdued and thin palate. It’s OK for the price and everything. Might make people try other brews.

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Rated on 3-30-2011 (Bottle purchased at Total Wine & More-Ft. Myers, FL) When poured, the head is small, very fizzy and tan. The body is opaque black and my glass has one ring of lacing. The aroma is roasty, burnt malt. The taste is roasted coffee, chocolate and malt. The mouthfeel is lively and this beer is light-medium bodied. This beer lacks character and flavor. The flavor is semi-light for the style and overall falls short for the style.

2.7 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
From a 12 oz bottle into a glass at home, poured a dark brown color with a average light brown head that faded quickly.A very light roast in the nose.Medium thin body with average carbonation.Kept waiting for the flavor but it never got around to showing up. Reminded me of the days of drinking yellow beer.

2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
Bottle @ home, courtesy of BoostIPA. Thanks boost! Pours a dark brown, clear appearance with a brown head. Toffee, caramelized sugar, a touch fruity, earthy, chocolate aroma. A bit skunky, burnt sugar, chocolate, slightly bitter flavor. Not horrendous but definitely not a good porter.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
DATE TASTED: December 19, 2013... GLASSWARE: Guinness pint...OCCASION: prep for The Desolation of Smaug with a review of another old favorite... APPEARANCE: as expected dark black with a dragon’s red eye when held to the light; head is two-fingered at the start; brown slush settles quickly; zero lacing.. AROMA: caramel, chocolate, and vanilla with some peaty notes--a rugged and ready mix of winter scents... PALATE: slick, medium-bodied; drinkable and soda-esque...TASTE: sugary slightly chocolaty and smoky, with some lactic presence too--a balanced, pleasant experience...OVERALL: like The Hobbit\, this beer doesn’t disappoint, despite repeated viewings--er, tastings--and though the critic in me knows bigger, bolder, more unique porters exist, I find Yuengling’s version more sessionable, less demanding and in line with the spirit of the genre--fortified ale for the working man...

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Decent but not overly flavorful. This is the best I have had from Yuenglijng. A little bit sweet, the maltiness is a decent beer. Short aftertaste.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
A: Dark Brown Hue, Passes Almost No Light, Thin Off White Head Ring, Mild Lacing
S: Dark Malts, Very Mildly Roast, Mild Chocolate
T: Dark Mildly Roasted Malts, Mild Chocolate
M: Average Carbonation, Medium Bodied, Mildly Malty
Overall, very pedestrian but then again, I am at a Chili’s and not a craft beer bar.

3.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Nearly black with ruby highlights. Aroma of roast and caramel, nuts, and some chocolate. Taste of roast, some chalk, much drier than the aroma would suggest, also lighter body. A fine English-style porter. (Especially if, like me, you spill some as you pour it, so by the time you finish cleaning everything up, the beer warmed up a bit and lost some carbonation. rendering it more "English")

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
12oz bottle poured into a tumbler.
Very dark brown, almost opaque, with a medium tan head.
Soft roasty nose, with some coffee and mellow chocolate aroma.
Clean light roasted malt flavors, lo-med bitterness, some earthiness and some coffee.
Light-med body, some creaminess, short finish and quite balanced. OK.
