jde123 (701), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 2, 2008 I have purchased this several times, with the same result. It isn’t very good. I don’t really know why Yuengling produces this beer, and why they spend money marketing it differently...does this style/recipe have some historical aspect that they don’t print on the bottle? Can’t figure it out. Not a great beer.
beeryswine (2), , New Jersey, USA does not count Jun 29, 2008 One of the best beers Yuengling makes, but only worth drinking if fresh. The can seems to hold the freshness best because the green bottles let in hop destroying light.
Prices around the central NJ, PA area are currently 4.99 / 6 pack, and this is a good price for this less than premium but satisfying beer. Cans in NJ however are very hard, if not impossible, to find.
This seems more like a decent lager than an ale. The can preserves a hop aroma that I’ve never detected before in the bottle. This newly discovered hoppiness covers the adjunct flavor that previously flawed my experience of this beer.
Better in my opinion than anything I’ve had from Lion in nearby Wilkes Barre. spagyetti (68), Puyallup, Washington, USA Jun 27, 2008 Bottle. The "old" Lord Chesterfield, we meet again! Commercial Description is " COMPLETELY OFF!" This is the stuff that is the after-birth of the lager! Why bother! Imaena (160), Portland, Maine, USA Jun 24, 2008 Bottle: Tastes like a generic American Light pseudo pilsner. Would not go for a golden ale on a tasting. Hops too restrained and the the carb too overdone. Biddle_Brau (86), Midland Park, New Jersey, USA Jun 18, 2008 Pours golden with thin white head. Very slight hop aroma comes through after initial skunkiness after opening the bottle. Carbonation provides some texture but body is thin. Flavor is grainy but crisp with dry slightly cloying aftertaste. A refreshing beer if nothing else. Not a style I prefer no matter who produces it but it’s Yuengling, let’s keep it America’s oldest! Haslinger (450), Syracuse, New York, USA Jun 17, 2008 bottle not good slightly skunky. a bit of malt and a mere smitgen of hops. would not buy again.
