leitrim65 (396), Seattle, Washington, USA Nov 25, 2007 Clear golden color. Cardboard, cereal nose with a touch of sweetness. Light bodied, clean and crisp with cereal and malt flavors. This is one boring ale.
Onslow (20), , Michigan, USA Sep 21, 2008 Poured from a bottle. Smells skunky, tastes skunky. Maybe I got a bad 6 pack. Picked this up while travelling (no Yuegling products in Kalamazoo, MI). So far, the least desireable of their products. fata2683 (178), APO, New York, USA Sep 15, 2008 Bottle, from the Yuengling brewery in Tampa, FL. Weird that I grew up 30 mins from the PA brewery and I’m just now trying this. Seems hard to find for me, I don’t know why it’s not special at all. A decent ale that suprised me with it’s hop flavor. It has a very thin body and seemed like a beer I could drink alot of. FatguyRacer (89), Crownsville, Maryland, USA Sep 6, 2008 Bottle. While this didn’t suck, there was nothing remarkable about it, except that it didn’t suck. Looks and smells like a typical American brew. Taste was a bit thin and watery. I was expecting it to be better than their regular lager, but it’s not and it cost a little more too boot. I’ll stick with regular Yuengling Lager as a cheap go to. For now. urbnhautebourg (934), Annapolis, Maryland, USA Sep 2, 2008 Go into this without expectations of any kind. Then, you might enjoy it. If you expect the taste of macro lager, you’ll be pleased with the faint hoppiness of the aroma and the flavor. Not bad at all, for what it is. DarkElf (2681), La Jolla, California, USA Aug 28, 2008 29-Mar-07 (12 oz bottle: Obtained in trade with hopdog, thanks Steve!) I first tried Lord Chesterfield Ale about 9 years ago and was thoroughly unimpressed (my summary comment was, "Tastes like a mass-produced European lager), but this isn’t actually as bad a beer as I once thought. The flavor is mildly sweet and grainy with the slightest hint of smokiness in the finish. Nothing great there, but at least it isn’t sweet and bready like many golden ales out there. Grassy hop flavor contributes only mild bitterness, but given how light the malt profile is, a gentle bitterness is all the beer needs to achieve balance. I might be hard pressed to distinguish it from a beer like Heineken, but it seems to be a bit more malty and has a slightly heavier body in the finish, making it less clean. It also doesn’t really have that skunky aroma that those green-bottle Euro imports often do. Body is light-medium and carbonation is moderate, but the beer sorely needs a cleaner and more crisp finish. The aroma is grassy and grainy, maybe a touch of corn, but there is an odd and somewhat unpleasant odor that I can’t place, funky and vaguely cheesy. Medium-yellow in color and clear in appearance, capped by a small, white head. Within a few minutes, only a partial film and ring remain, so retention is only fair, and there is no lacing. I don’t know, in the right setting, this wouldn’t be a bad beer, but it really needs to be cold. I probably wouldn’t enjoy this beer much under most situations, but right now, I find it strangely tolerable.
